Aug. 12, 2011 - PRLog -- A hydroponics system is an exceptional way to grow your plants  all round year to increase fruit yields over conservative soil. Hydroponic growing is a well known technique and a large variety of plants are grown in hydroponics systems in a healthy way. It is said that the favorite all time grower plant is citrus tree. Plants such as orange, lemon and mandarin can be grown effectively in a hydroponics system.

Growing citrus plant is not easy, as they are demanding plants. They require warm weather and high amounts of light. So growing citrus plant indoor is really a bad idea unless you provide a good LED growing light, high pressure sodium and halide lamps to grow healthier.

Once you decided to grow a citrus tree, then you can find a plant at a local nursery or if you decide to grow by seed on your own, then soak the seed for 2 days in a paper towel and then remove the external seed coating for the effective germination once the seed is planted. This seed will take atleast 10-14 days to germinate. Once it starts germinating, plant the seed in a container which has a well drainage system. Use one seed per pot and the peat pots are best for transplanting the whole pot into the next container for the plant growth.

Water the plants regularly but don’t overwater the plants. Do not use any product to shine the leaves for the indoor citrus as it will damage the plants. Keep the plant’s tip pruned so that the citrus tree grows bushier and more compact.

While  growing citrus plants in hydroponics systems, you have to make sure that you use a 5 gallon container filled with rice husk, perlite or vermiculite fitted with adequate tube at the bottom for nutrient solution evacuation and install a drip irrigation system with atleast 3 drip emitter per citrus tree you plant.

Make sure you provide them the best nutrients to your citrus plant to grow healthier. As the plant grows in hydroponics receives nutrients not from the soil but the nutrients you provide them through hydroponics systems. For the best nutrients, I suggest AdvancedNutrients's hydroponics nutrients for the best results. Since your tree is growing in hydroponics systems, it will never face any iron or manganese deficiencies common to soil grown citrus trees.

Growing citrus tree indoors needed to be pollinated by your own. If you don’t pollinate then you will not have fruit. So use a small paintbrush, cotton pad or your finger tip to pollinate the plant. Stroke the stamen then pistol of the flower and do this to every flower of your citrus tree to bear fruit.
