Only 3 weeks left to enter fantasic competition to win 2 places on Lakes Expedition Weekend

Aug. 10, 2011 - PRLog -- Fieldskills, the expedition experts with bases in the Lake District and Borneo, is looking for intrepid individuals who want to get far from the beaten track for a taste of expedition life.  They are offering two free places on a Lake District Expedition on 16 - 18 September.  Entering the competition is quick and easy via their website.

Expedition leader and Fieldskills director Dom Hall told us more about what the adventure weekend holds in store: "Expedition life is all about dealing with whatever the weather and the environment throw at you and being well-prepared.  We'll spend Friday night in pretty cosy surroundings - a large yurt in a remote corner of the Lake District.  Then we'll go up into the woods near Grizebeck to set up a jungle-style camp using machetes to get firewood and putting up hammocks and bashas.  We'll light a fire and cook some food while we talk through plans for the next day.  On Sunday we'll be attemping a river crossing, we'll have some fun using GPS and we'll work through “emergency” scenarios.  The final challenge will be to navigate back to base in late afternoon.”

Pavla from Inverness took part in the Lakes Expedition Weekend in May this year.  She says, "I wanted to meet new people and spend a weekend outdoor whilst learning something.  It was great fun and very adventurous.  I was very worried about sleeping in the hammocks but I honestly enjoyed it!"  Mike from Swarhtmoor added "The time flew past, there was always something to do and at the end you were tired, a happy kind of tired."  His advice to anyone going on the September expedition is "Do not attempt to lie face down in a hammock - you don't bend that way. And, if it's windy, think about whether there any dead branches above your hammock! "

Dom continues, "The Lakes Expedition Weekend is a first for Fieldskills. Our staff are all outdoors people – when we’re not off on an adventure or expedition we’re planning the next one.  We’ve led expeditions all over the world – Borneo, Sinai, Peru, Gabon and more – and we thought it’s about time we did something a bit closer to home.  This is a real expedition, with all the usual unpredictable elements.  It gives people the chance to learn skills that are useful whether your adventure is in the Lake District or on the other side of the world!”
