Care for the Elderly - Care for Ourselves

How we treat our elderly reflects on how we will be treated ourselves

Aug. 3, 2011 - PRLog -- Having been involved with the care industry for a long time now ( over 20 years ) I feel that I have gleaned a fair understanding of the way in which the client relationship is formed.
Firstly I should point out that the majority of what is labelled in the UK as respite care or even convalescent care is indeed 'looking after the elderly' there is no two ways about it.
People age, that is the great leveller of all, and it is the sad fact that all people, irrespective of wealth, fitness or mental agility will, at some time, eventually fall prey to ill health, mental weakness and the inability to care for themselves at some level.
As Tom Lehrer pointed out "An awful debility, A lessened utility, A loss of mobility Is a strong possibility. In all probability 'll lose my virility And you your fertility And desirability, And this liability Of total sterility Will lead to hostility And a sense of futility, So let's act with agility While we still have facility, For we'll soon reach senility And lose the ability.!"
Well the lyrics above merely point out the sad, inevitability that each of us, and moreover our parents or elder relatives will need care at some stage.
This eternal fact is moreover emphasised by the fact that we are, in general, having babies later on in life which, in turn, means that we are less able to find the time to take care of the generations above us in our middle ages. We need to make sure that they receive attention and care throughout these times and finding a good care agency is paramount.
Now, it goes without saying that the increase in the percentage of people requiring respite care has led many people into this service industry for the wrong reasons. Just as you can't run a good restaurant without an  innate love for food, you really should not run a care agency without having a real feeling for those who require just that : CARE.
So, it pleases me greatly to have found Lighthouse Care in West Sussex who have a track record in supplying award winning care to many people in the area for a long time. The company is not run by accountants or marketers, rather it is run by professional carers, right up to director level.
Someone once said that a society can be measured by the way in which it treats its weak and elderly. well, if we are able to find care agencies who really care then we can all rest a lot easier, knowing that those we love will be looked after, and we, one day, will be also soo see a Sussex Care Agency at http://www.lighthousecare.com/
