July 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Fort Worth, TX… National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum (NMWHM) will be holding a special dedication for the inaugural community Garden during the celebration of the National Day of the American Cowboy with Pam Grier, July 21-24.  Pam Grier, actress, author and philanthropist will attend and participate in the ribbon cutting ceremony for the new Pam Grier Community Garden (PGCG) at the new NMWHM Outdoor Learning Center. The ceremony, which begins at 11:30 a.m., will include a welcome from City Officials, the history of the garden, a ribbon cutting ceremony, a tour of the garden and refreshments.
Saturday, July 23rd marks the official opening of the Pam Grier Community Garden.  “By attending the ribbon cutting ceremony, individuals and families will send a decisive message that they believe in investing in their community’s future.” says Austin.  The Pam Grier Community Garden will deliver dividends in the years to come in the form of a new generation of good stewards to the land and the environment.   The PGCG welcomes families with limited income or limited space to be a part of the gardening experience that will offer “how to” workshops and promote organic growing and healthy eating.
“We are fortunate to have a City Council, community partners, and volunteers who are committed to working together for a healthier Ft Worth,” said Gloria Austin, Museum Co-Founder. The Community Garden provides many social, economic, and public health benefits. The garden will provide healthy food and physical activity for families that garden the spaces, offer fresh produce donations to the local food bank, offer educational sessions, create a sense of community, act as a public meeting place, and beautify the neighborhood. Everyone’s saying – ‘Let’s do this!’ The City is celebrating first steps, we have a ways to go, and we’ll get there.”The future demands that we build a larger museum & education center.

“It is our goal to build a sense of community and pride and to act as a center for educating and encouraging others to participate in gardening communities wherever they live” say Grier.  Grier's childhood was spent growing up in Denver, Colorado, spawned her love of the Western way of life at an early age. In 1970, Grier turned her attention towards the bright lights of Hollywood. It didn't take long for the leggy and beautiful Grier to begin landing leading lady roles. She played a tough and foxy chick in a string of action movies in the 1970s, dubbed "blaxploitation" films, most notably Coffy (1973) and Foxy Brown (1974).  She had a small but memorable role in Fort Apache, The Bronx (starring Paul Newman) in 1981.  Her career heated up again in the late 80s with regular roles on the hit TV shows Miami Vice and Crime Story. She co-starred with Fred Williamson in the movie Original Gangstas in 1996 and had a major role in Tim Burton's Mars Attacks!  that same year.  In 1997, she garnered an entirely new fan base when she landed the title role in the Quentin Tarantino cult hit Jackie Brown with Robert DeNiro, John Travolta and Samuel L. Jackson.  With a career that has spanned nearly four decades, a New York Times #1 Best Seller and icon status, Grier has returned to the scenic plains of Denver which she now calls home once again, on a ranch with the horses and the Western way of life she has always loved.

The National Day of the American Cowboy with Pam Grier events hosted by Ms. Grier include a reading program, Family Fun Festival in honor of the National Day of the American Cowboy Celebration, a Foxy Affair Reception at the museum and a book signing of her #1 Best Selling memoir "FOXY: My Life in Three Acts."  Ticketed events will benefit the educational programs, exhibits and outdoor learning center at the National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum in Fort Worth, Texas.

The National Day of the American Cowboy campaign was founded by American Cowboy Magazine in 2004 to preserve, protect and promote our cowboy and Western heritage and lobby for the passage of a national resolution designating the fourth Saturday of every July a permanent celebration on the national calendar honoring cowboys and cowgirls for their enduring contribution to the courageous, pioneering spirit of America.  This year’s celebration is Saturday, July 23rd.

ABOUT NATIONAL MULTICULTURAL WESTERN HERITAGE MUSEUM

The National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum (formerly Cowboys of Color Museum) was founded to give recognition to the “forgotten cowboys” of multicultural ancestry who played a role in settling the early American western frontier.  The National Multicultural Western Heritage Museum acknowledges a diverse group of individuals who continue the legacy of western culture, tradition and play a part in keeping this important piece of American History alive. The Museum offers a true and complete historical perspective of the people and activities that built the unique culture of the Old West.  The work of artists who documented the people and events of the time through journals, photographs and other historical items are part of the collection.  The NMWHM created an indoor and outdoor learning center in partnership with educators to ensure the content developed met the state requirements for reading and writing proficiency skills as well as other educational requirements.  The program builds reading, writing, researching skills, healthy self-esteem, respect for their ancestors and other cultures.
