July 14, 2011 - PRLog -- SEATTLE, Wash.: As a growing number of people begin showing signs of early memory loss, one area senior living community recently launched a new, innovative health care option for older adults in downtown Seattle. The Terraces at Skyline introduces Catered Assisted Living, which unlike traditional memory support, is designed specifically for those with mild dementia and memory loss.

“This isn’t your typical memory support,” said Susan Roberts, Health Services Sales Manager for The Terraces at Skyline. “Many communities like The Terraces at Skyline have traditional memory support, but we’ve taken it a step further and added a new, enhanced option for those showing early signs of dementia. Our approach is called Catered Assisted Living, and it bridges the divide between assisted living and memory support.”

With this newly designed care option, the life care community now offers four levels of care, including assisted living, skilled nursing, Catered Assisted Living and memory support care.

The Terraces at Skyline will showcase its new Catered Assisted Living during an open house on Thursday, July 14. The event will take place from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the community, located at 725 9th Avenue in Seattle. During the open house, guests are invited to tour the community, including a Catered Assisted Living model apartment and sunroom with views of The Sound, while enjoying refreshments and meeting with the team of professionals at The Terraces at Skyline. “We’re the first in the area to offer this innovative care option that just might be the perfect answer for those with mild dementia and memory loss. We’ve talked with many families who are thankful they don’t have to move their mother or father in traditional memory support care,” said Linda VanderSys, Director of Health Services. “Yet, they have the peace of mind knowing their loved one is secure and receiving quality care and some extra assistance by professionals who understand and have experience with dementia and Alzheimer’s disease.”

The Terraces at Skyline offers 12 private Catered Assisted Living apartments. The community is sponsored by Presbyterian Retirement Communities Northwest (PRCN), a Seattle-based, not-for-profit organization with more than a half-century of experience and stability. Residents enjoy fine dining, regular wellness evaluations and a variety of social, cultural, spiritual and educational opportunities. In addition, the community has 24-hour security, including modern technology such as WanderGuard, an alert system that helps prevent wandering.

As one of the few life care communities in Seattle, The Terraces at Skyline provides residents access to a full continuum of on-site, best-quality health care. According to Roberts, The Terraces at Skyline’s health care services are also available via direct admittance to those outside the community with no entry fee required.
