July 12, 2011 - PRLog -- An RN registered nurse is one who has graduated from a college nursing degree and has passed the needed licensure exam to become a full-blooded nurse. As they are in the medical profession, they work to promote good health and living and to prevent the contraction of various illnesses. Also, they aid in educating their patients and the public about different kinds of medical conditions and they also help provide emotional advice and medical support to the same. Usually, they care for the sick in hospitals, public health agencies, schools, industries and businesses, but there are also cases wherein an RN is employed for private care and practice.
A lot of nurses are employed for the overall care of their patients, which is usually called being a general-duty nurse. Their practice is dominantly governed by the Nurse Practice Act of each state, which outlines their legal practice as well as what tasks they may and may not perform. This also dictates the scope of practice for practitioners.
It takes a long and tough road to become a Registered Nurse , but once a person manages to get through all of that with hard work and grit, big (and I mean BIG) rewards and a handsome paycheck are in store for the nurse-to-be. RNs are known to earn a competitive salary, and by competitive, it means that their income depends on the factors such as the location of work or practice, specializations, years of experience, certifications and degrees attained. For those seasoned RNs, their average monthly salary is around $2,000 while their average hourly salaries are around $22 - $30, and take note, these are only averages, and this may even be bigger or lesser depending on the factors stated earlier. But, for those RNs who are still fresh from the sea, the average salary would, of course, be lower than the figures than that of the seasoned ones. All in all, this amounts to about $60,000 per year for the new ones while around $90,000 for the experienced ones.
RNs are tasked to administer medications under the orders and supervision of a doctor and keep track of their patients’ records of symptoms and healing progress. But not all nurses specialize in doing the same thing. There are nurses who are good in field while there are those who are superior in a different field. Nursing careers or specializations may be any of the following:
•   Critical care nurses who practice and work in the ICUs or intensive care units.
•   School nurses provide care for the children, teenagers, and adults in a school while a geriatric nurse is the one who cares for the elderly.
•   Respiratory nurses treat and care for patients who are suffering from respiratory illnesses and ailments.
•   Psychiatric nurses treat patients who have mental health problems.
•   Nephrology nurses care for those who have problems with their kidney.
But there are still those nurses who specialize in not just one, but two or more fields, such as the pediatric oncology nurse who specializes in the care of kids and adolescents suffering from the various forms of cancer.
The study of nursing really is a great college course to take up, especially if such student wants to earn a lot of money and become successful. It may be a hard and difficult journey in the under graduate school and would also be quite expensive too, but through it all, it would definitely pay off in the end. Everyone would want to have achieved that registered nurse title through absolute determination and utmost dedication, right?
