In cooperation with the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and NeighborWorks® The EHLP program was created by Congress to assist homeowners who have experienced a reduction in income and are at risk of foreclosure due to involuntary unemployment, underemployment, economic conditions or a medical condition. Texas received $135 million for this program. Eligible homeowners can qualify for an interest free loan, which pays a portion of their monthly mortgage for up to two years, or up to $50,000, whichever comes first. The EHLP funds will pay a portion of an approved applicant's monthly mortgage as well as missed mortgage payments or past due charges including principal, interest, taxes and insurance. "The deadline to apply for this program is July 22, 2011, so we encourage homeowners to submit their information now to a participating housing counseling nonprofit," said David Long, President of the Texas State Affordable Housing Corporation and co-chair of the Texas Foreclosure Prevention Task Force. "Even if homeowners do not qualify for this program, the participating housing counseling nonprofits are trained to assist homeowners with foreclosure intervention and other housing services." The Texas Foreclosure Prevention Task Force has two key messages for consumers: Don't delay in investigating if you are eligible for the program, and be certain you are dealing with a nonprofit organization approved, authorized or associated with the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) or NeighborWorks® For more information interested Texas homeowners should visit www.texasforeclosurehelp.org, www.FindEHLP.org, call toll free 855-FIND-EHLP (346-3345) or contact one of the following EHLP Texas providers: Avenida Guadalupe Association Website: www.avenidaguadalupe.org Phone Number: (210) 223-3151 Location: San Antonio BCL of Texas Website: www.ehlptexas.org Phone Number: (877) 417-8272 Locations: Dallas, Austin CCCS of Greater Dallas Website: www.cccs.net Phone Number: (214) 638-2227 Locations: Dallas, Austin CredAbility Website: www.CredAbility.org Phone Number: (800) 984-0979 Location: National Hotline GreenPath Debt Solutions Web: www.greenpath.com Phone: (888) 893-2711 Locations: Brownsville, Corpus, Denton, Harlingen, McAllen, McKinney, Plano, and Texarkana Homeownership Preservation Foundation - HOPE Hotline Web: www.995hope.org Phone: (888) 995-HOPE Location: National Hotline Houston Area Urban League Web: www.haul.org Phone: (713) 393-8700 Locations: Houston Area Money Management International - MMI Web: www.get-ehlp.org Phone: (877) 329-2502 Phone: (713) 394-3000 Locations: Abilene, Bedford, Bryan, Burleson, Fort Worth, Houston, Humble, Killeen, Lubbock, Lufkin, Mansfield, Odessa, San Angelo, Stafford, Sugarland, Texas City, The Woodlands, Waco, and National Hotline NHS of Waco Web: www.nw-waco.org Phone: (254) 752-1647 Location: Waco Operation HOPE Web: www.operationhope.org Phone (877) 592-4673 Location: National Hotline Springboard Non Profit Consumer Credit Management, Inc.
