Matthew Thompson Leads The British F1000 Junior Rallying Championships

June 28, 2011 - PRLog -- At the age of 14 years and 12 days old, Matthew made British Rallying history in March 2009, as the youngest ever driver on a British Rally, when he started the Roskirk Junior Stages of the inaugural UK Formula 1000 Junior Rallying Championship.

Speaking about his win at the midsummer stages at Caerwent, Matthew said “Winning one of the longest and toughest rallies the juniors compete in was absolutely brilliant. I was lucky to get away with a big spin on the first stage without damaging the car, but from then onwards we pushed hard to regain time to take the lead, which we held on to the end. I would like to thank Graham Raeburn for once again co-driving and Mum & Dad for servicing the car.”
With over 60 stage miles to complete at Caerwent, it was a rally full of drama and close competition with the best quality junior entry yet this year. However Matthew, his co-driver Graham and their Nissan Micra car proved the best on the day.
Matthew’s car is self-prepared by himself and his father and has proven to be very reliable, finishing every rally started to date.
