The HTC Wildfire S is a phone that shows significant improvements when compared to its predecessor.

June 21, 2011 - PRLog -- With its revamped screen and an updated operating system, the Wildfire S has a chance to truly stand out where previous models fell short. Here are a few other things to consider.

Upon first glance, the Wildfire S certainly looks good. At 105g, it's quite light, flat, and slender. We also like its quality plastic, which comes in brown, silver, and black. It's also quite tiny—there is very little room for anything except its 3.2 inch capacitive touchscreen. Bright and vivid, it's surprisingly easy to read. Alas, it's tiny size means that if you have large fingers or loathe touchscreens in general, you're out of luck.

Another new quirk is that its trackpad is gone. Instead, you'll find a row of flat, touch sensitive buttons. These are nicely responsive, though again, those with clumsy fingers may find themselves accidentally pushing the wrong thing.

Its Android 2.3.3 operating system is a definite plus, especially when combined with the HTC Sense user interface. Along with getting a wealth of useful apps and widgets, having Android on board means that you get a wealth of different Google related features, such as Gmail, Google Talk, Google Maps, and more. Alas, our only wish was that the phone were faster. Its slow processor will genuinely try the patience of many users.

Its internet related features are top notch, including wi-fi, 3G, Bluetooth, HSPA, and many more. Its quadband technology means you'll get to use the phone regardless of where your travels take you. Its email client and browser are fairly decent, if a bit slow. Its responsive screen make texting and typing quite enjoyable as long as you have small to medium fingers. All in all, it has a lot to offer, including a wealth of apps and widgets at the Android Store.

Alas, its camera could be better. It has five megapixels, autofocus, and a LED flash, but little else. This makes it possible to take pictures in darker areas, but the flash simply isn't strong enough to handle night shots or pub crawls. It also has very little in the way of photo tweaking features. Its music related features are equally bare bones, but they provide you with enough to get the job done. Mainly: a quality music player and a 3.5 mm headphone jack. This universal jack makes it possible to use your own set of headphones instead of the ones that come with the box. It also supports a wealth of different song formats, which is a definite plus. Its battery life could be better, with 350 minutes of talk time and 570 hours of standby. However, considering the presence of wi-fi along with its energy sapping screen, this should come as no surprise. Its memory storage includes 512 RAM with a microSD slot should you need more.

While it has its problems, the HTC Wildfire S is a tiny phone with huge ambition. Its sleek good looks, pocket perfect size, and bright, responsive screen are all incredibly designed. Its 3.5 mm headphone jack, autofocus, and LED flash are also rare things to find on a budget phone. However, if its small size makes it uncomfortable to use, it may be better to seek elsewhere.
