PF HelpDesk With SQL Azure As New Database Alternative
The kalmstrom.com tool for incident management inside Outlook is updated. Several features have been added, but most important is no doubt the possibility to use Microsoft's cloud based SQL Azure database to store support tickets and settings.
The addition of the third database alternative was not easy, because the first test version had security issues. "We could not accept that", says kalmstrom.com Lead Developer Jayant Rimza, who has been responsible for the development. "We rather let our users wait for an upgrade than take any risks with their security, but now we have a good solution. I think the new database alternative will be especially attractive to smaller businesses. Today they often use an Access database, but Access has a storage limit of 2 GB and sometimes that is not enough."
In spite of the name, Public Folder HelpDesk can be installed in any Outlook folder, public, shared or private. Tickets may be created not only from e-mails but also from Outlook Appointments and Tasks, and with a click you can save the ticket to a Knowledge Base article or a Task. The information is shared via a Microsoft Exchange server, but nothing must be installed on the Exchange server itself.
