Ford is capitalizing off the engines success and the high gas prices by building their smallest engine ever. The new, three cylinder 1.0-liter EcoBoost will be introduced in all small Ford cars. The new EcoBoost engine is being designed to offer the best fuel efficiency and emit the least amount of emissions possible. When designing the 1.0-liter engine, Ford engineers focused on improving thermal efficiency and reducing friction, specifically as the engine warms up because this is when higher levels of pollutants are emitted.

The current Ford EcoBoost engines offer an unmated combination of power and fuel efficiency. EcoBoost engines are a common choice for F-150 buyers, as one out of every four F-150s is equipped with the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost. Ford recently announced the 2013 Taurus will also have the option of the different EcoBoost engines.

No specific figures have been released regarding the new EcoBoost engine, however Ford states that they new engine will perform equal to or better than most normal 1.6-liter gasoline engines. Additional details will be revealed in September at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Germany.
