Dallas Bar Association Wins Star Business & Community Awards

May 31, 2011 - PRLog -- The Dallas Bar Association was recently recognized as a Business and Community Star by the Dallas ISD Career Education & Workforce Partnerships at a reception held at Conrad High School in Dallas.

The award, which recognizes community programs that help in the success of Dallas ISD students through college and business field trips, internships, professional development and more, was presented to the DBA’s Summer Law Intern Program (SLIP). The SLIP program is a joint program of the Dallas Bar Association and the Dallas Independent School District that launched in the summer of 1994. Through the program, incoming high school seniors work in law firms and corporate legal departments throughout the Dallas-area for up to eight weeks during June through August. In addition to their internships, students are taken on several educational event field trips, including tours of the County and Federal Courthouses. Co-Chairs of the DBA Summer Law Intern Program are Ryan McFarlin, attorney at The McFarlin Firm, PLLC, and Erin Peirce, attorney at law.

The award also highlighted five other community partnership programs of the DBA and Dallas ISD: Texas High School Mock Trial Program, Law Day, Mock Voir Dire, Appealing to the Public and the E-Mentoring Program.

A second award was presented to Amy Smith, Dallas Bar Association Law-Related Education Coordinator, for her help in coordinating these events and programs.
