Macka Diamond Cow Foot Dance - A Re-incarnation of Jamaican Folklore!

May 27, 2011 - PRLog -- Macka Diamond Cow Foot Dance is the latest phenomenon in the local Dancehall.  The Dance moves were created by popular Dancer Shelly Belly who along with his Bermuda Squad takes pleasure in showing off the move with every chance they get.
Shelly Belly a former member of the John Squad headed by Dancer John Hype back in 2005 took the decision to form his own group after a near fatal accident in November of the same year.  He teamed up with ace Dancehall artiste Beenie Man who in a newspaper interview in 2006 had said that some youths in the business, "all dem need is a chance, an yuh jus haffi gi dem a opportunity a Shelly Belly a good yout wid whole heap a potential." Well Shelly Belly made good of his solo career and went on to make a name for his self within the Dancehall industry locally and internationally.

Fast forward March 2011, upon hearing Macka Diamond’s Cow Foot song's the comical and suggestive lyrics where the artiste refer to her mans’ genitals as “Cow Foot,” she so badly wanted; Shelly Belly quickly created a dance move for the song that almost immediately gained traction in the Dancehall.  Like almost all the moves created by Jamaican dancers in the Dancehall, “Cow Foot” in its own way is cultural and sexy.  Watching Shelly Belly do the dance, demonstrates the use of the waist a lot while stretching the arms and legs, in a demonstration video Shelly Belly instructed ‘stretch out u han & kick out u foot, waist a jook.'  And what about the women reacting to the dance? Clearly ‘Cow Foot’ dance has brought back some Jamaican roots in current Dancehall, there are traits of the early mento dance collaborated with current moves.  Mento is a sytle of Jamaican folk music that predates and has greatly influenced ska and Reggae music.  The lyrics of Mento songs often dealt with aspects of everyday life in a light-hearted and humorous way, thinly-veiled sexual references and innuendo among others are also common themes. Although the treatment of such subjects in mento is comparatively innocent, their appearance has sometimes been seen as an originator of sexuality found in modern dancehall.

The dance is viral and the reason why it is quickly spreading throughout the Dancehall.  A welcome move at this time as Jamaicans of African ancestry are known to dance, sing at work or play for joy or from fear and sorrow.
