Event to mark £100k park upgradeA MULTI-SPORTS playing surface and an adventure trail are among the new attractions at a Swansea park thanks to an investment worth over £100,000.
By: City and County of Swansea The Breathing Life Project at Parc Llewelyn is now complete and also includes new welcome signs and a wildlife and wetland area. The 18-month upgrade has been made possible thanks to funding from Swansea Council, the Friends of Parc Llewelyn, Wren, Tidy Towns, Biffaward and the National Lottery's Awards for All Wales scheme. Funding has also led to the development of a Friends of Llewelyn Park website, the introduction of a part-time gardener, the resurfacing of paths and the treatment of knotweed. Extra litter and dog waste bins have been installed as well as more seating and picnic benches. An event to mark the completion of the upgrade is taking place at Parc Llewelyn on Saturday May 28 from noon until 3.30pm. Lord Mayor Cllr Ioan Richard will be on hand to officially open the new multi-use games area before an afternoon of Dragon Sports fun, face-painting and orienteering. Refreshments will be available as well as five-a-side football tournament for U12s and a display from the South Wales Police Armed Response Unit. Any under 12s looking to enter a team in the five-a-side tournament should call Arron Ring at Swansea Council on 01792 635484. The Friends of Parc Llewelyn have arranged the event. Cllr Graham Thomas, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture, Recreation and Tourism, said: "This project is made up of a number of improvements that are designed to encourage greater community involvement in the park and follows on from extensive consultation with people and groups in the nearby area. "The commitment and support of the Friends of Parc Llewelyn and the other funding bodies means this makeover has been an outstanding success that will serve people of all ages well in the nearby community for many years to come."
