May 30, 2011 - PRLog -- The city of Pomona will experience the inspirational movement set forth by award-winning musical ensemble, THE LOWKEYS. The “Don’t Sleep” Movement caught the attention of the Latino Art Museum director, Graciela Nardi.  Combining both forces of THE LOWKEYS and the Latino Art Museum will definitely put this movement into action.

The city’s downtown atmosphere is known to be filled with the spirit of “art.” It is also known to be the home of the famous Fox Theatre, The Glass House, and other “art-inspired” businesses which include: record shops, tattoo saloons, and art museums like the Latino Art Museum (LAM). When LAM’s Artistic Director, Graciela Nardi, met with Heat.Wav Records representatives about hosting the “Don’t Sleep” exhibit she instantly fell in love with the idea.

Various artists will submit their personal interpretation of the “Don’t Sleep” Movement symbol to be displayed at the July exhibit. Selected pieces will be auctioned off to the attendees of the exhibit and proceeds received from the auction will be donated to both the Latino Art Museum and THE LOWKEYS Children’s Art Foundation. The exhibit will create a mass awareness of the positive, social movement the group has established. Many city officials, humanitarians, and special celebrity guests will attend the red carpet affair to support the artists’ expressive pieces and, of course, enjoy good music by award-winning hip hop band, THE LOWKEYS. All in attendance will also be celebrating the 10 year anniversary of the Latino Art Museum of Pomona.

The “Don’t Sleep” Movement Exhibit will begin displaying pieces on July 2, 2011 through the end of the month. The official opening ceremony will commence on Saturday, July 9, 2011. The fundraising auction will also take part on the same night. Coinciding with the exhibit will be the city of Pomona’s Art Walk held monthly throughout the downtown strip.
