May 20, 2011 - PRLog -- Eating disorder treatment centers have time and again proved that there is a close link between teenagers and eating disorders. Parental indifference is also a major reason why there is a criminal neglect of food among a certain group of youngsters who think that denying or purging food in a self-induced manner can consume the guilt they harbor about eating or drinking certain types of food.

For every one 1 million men who suffer from eating disorders, there are 10 million females who suffer from the same issue. This means close to 90 percent of folks have eating disorders are girls, aged in their teens and early 20s. Anorexia Nervosa and Bulimia are the two main types of eating disorders. In Anorexia Nervosa, the person stays away from eating and finds excuses to avoid eating while in bulimia, a person can self-induce herself to vomit or use laxatives after eating food because she is ridden with guilt of having eaten food. The other non-purging activities that are done to tide over the guilt is fasting and over-exercising.

Taxing the body excessively and punishing it for having food, in case of bulimia and binge eating, is something that can be quite harmful for the body. Treatment centers that deal with these problems have seen that in most cases of Bulimia and Anorexia among teens, the parents are to be blamed because they are either indifferent or they are too strict and authoritative. Doctors believe that more than an 'eating' problem, it is a psychological disorder because people are acting on their emotions and basing their decisions on certain manipulated perceptions.

The family does have a constructive role to play in making sure that the teen gets better control of her life and is able to be treated of her eating disorder quickly. Compared to conventional therapy, a treatment program that includes family therapy has a faster, better success rate.

The family therapy certainly proves to be a worthy catalyst in such cases because the presence of family members can be helpful in giving the right direction to the child and making them feel secure and confident about the treatment. For instance, when parents are involved, the therapy assumes a sense of individuality for the patient because she knows that along with the people who give her treatment, she has the family backing and support system. The presence of the family can be quite reassuring to the child.

Apart from giving emotional help to the child, parents are able to fully understand the problems of the child by becoming familiar with the eating disorders; they understand various triggers that stimulate the child's mind and are able to see the world though their eyes. This is a very good answer to some cynics who says that these types of treatment centers make the person in the program feel isolated. In fact, the opposite is the case, because they can be quite welcoming to the family of the teen, so that the person feels at home and recovers quickly.                                                                                                                                                               http://transformationstreatment.com/treatment-center-forum/                                           http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LP4LkEb9XDU
