May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- LINCOLN, NEB – “Today’s surprise endorsement by the national Tea Party Express organization does not reflect the views of most Nebraska tea party members, “ said Dan Parsons, spokesperson for Don Stenberg, Republican candidate for the 2012 Nebraska Senate seat currently held by Ben Nelson.

“We are surprised any tea party group could support a candidate who nearly doubled his government budget in eight years and requested a half million dollar earmark from Senator Ben Nelson just last year,” Parsons said.

“Don Stenberg has a proven, lifetime record as a genuine conservative. He was the Republican U.S. Senate nominee in 2000 and although polls showed him starting behind Senator Ben Nelson by more than 30 percentage points, he turned it into the closest U.S. Senate race in Nebraska history.  Today, two published polls show Stenberg with a 4 to 6 percent lead over Senator Nelson, even though at the time the polls were taken he was not yet a candidate.”

Mr. Stenberg served as Nebraska Attorney General from 1990-2002 and was elected Nebraska State Treasurer in 2010 with 73 percent of the vote.
