Contemporary dance treat for two Coventry schools

May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Two schools in the city are benefiting from lessons in contemporary dance, courtesy of two Coventry University students.

Pupils at Leigh Cof E School in Tile Hill and the Joseph Cash Primary School in Radford are being taught contemporary dance and improvisation skills by two final year dance making and performance students.

Louise Williamson and Leanne Morris have set up the Burst Bubble Dance Company for their final year project and have been working alongside the schools with the aim of helping them to use their improvised moves and transfer it into a performance.

Both Louise and Leanne have taught at other schools within the Coventry area as part of previous modules of the course and have worked with Brownie and Guide groups as part of a community project.

Leanne, 22, said:

“I started dancing at the age of 5 but didn’t learn the skills of contemporary dance until I came to study at Coventry. It is such a lively, invigorating form of dance and something that has really captured the imagination of the pupils at both schools.

“The final performance is going to be a mixture of improvisation and structured movement. We will have a live musician performing alongside the children for the improvised piece and for the structured collaboration, which we created with the children, we will be performing it to a mix of popular music.”

The Burst Bubble Dance Company will be performing in Room 221 at the Ellen Terry Building at Coventry University on Wednesday 18 May at 6pm. Tickets are priced at £2 for adults and £1 for children under 16. There are deals available for family groups.
