Spanish flag to fly at Sawgrass

May 11, 2011 - PRLog -- The PGA Tour will fly the Spanish flag at The Players championship in memory of Seve Ballesteros, it has been announced.





The Spanish golf legend died in the early hours of Saturday after finally losing his battle with brain cancer and his funeral will take place in his home village of Pedrina in Spain on Wednesday. (Callaway RAZR X Irons = http://www.enjoymygolf.com/goods-185-Callaway+RAZR+X+Irons.html  )



The Spanish flag will be flown over the winners circle at TPC Sawgrass during The Players this week in place of the flag of the previous year's Sawgrass winner - in this case South Africa's Tim Clark.



And it will continue to fly over the winner's circle until Sunday evening when it will be replaced by the national flag of this week's winner.



In the meantime, a Spanish flag is flying at half mast at the nearby World Golf Hall of Fame, a framed photo of Ballesteros has been placed in the box office and a black ribbon is being displayed on his Callaway RAZR X Irons = http://www.enjoymygolf.com/goods-185-Callaway+RAZR+X+Iron... .



In addition special tributes were made to Ballesteros during monday night's Hall of Fame induction of South Africa's Ernie Els, former US President George HW Bush, American Doug Ford, the late, Scottish-born Jock Hutchison, Japan's Jumbo Ozaki, and the late US golf TV producer Frank Chirkinian.



Ballesteros' funeral is set to take place at the San Pedro parish church in his home village of Pedrena near Santander at 1pm on Wednesday..



"Seve will be cremated at a ceremony that will be as intimate as possible and at a place that nobody will know," his family said.

Seve's brother Baldomero commented: "The funeral rites will be as simple as those for any neighbour from the village.



"He was born here and here he will remain."
