May 6, 2011 - PRLog -- Baltimore, MD — On Sunday, May 15, 2011, Beauty-in-a-Purse (BIAP), a Maryland based charity will join forces with My Sisters Place Women’s Center located at 17 West Franklin Street, Baltimore MD, 21201 from 4-6pm, to feed 100 of Baltimore city’s poor and homeless women and children. The monthly event, that was started in 2010 by Lanitra Jackson, a Howard County resident, has gained many supporters throughout Baltimore, expanding BIAP’s services to over 18 U.S. cities.

BIAP’s monthly feed program is designed to provide a hot meal and encouragement to those afflicted with homelessness, an epidemic that has ravaged cities such as Baltimore MD, Richmond VA and Elizabeth NJ in staggering numbers.“One monthly feeding is simply not enough, but we need to bring awareness to this growing problem. We are in need of more monthly volunteers to serve food, prepare food and give hope to those without a voice.” says Jackson, who was recently laid off by a leading global asset management company based in Baltimore MD.

On May 15th, Beauty-in-a-Purse will also accept donations of new and gently used handbags as well as toiletry/cosmetic items to be distributed in the month of June 2011 to women in transition from homeless shelters, jail and domestic violence safe houses. The handbag drive is a part of BIAP’s core mission to give transitioning women across the country a seed of hope and the confidence to thrive in society despite the odds.
