A Care Home in Felixstowe by the sea

A care home is designed to be a home from home. But care homes in coastal areas have one added advantage – the coastline

May 4, 2011 - PRLog -- For many, the thought of going to be seaside for a paddle in the water, sunbathing on the beach and an ice cream bring back memories of days gone by.

If you talk to most elderly people, they will remember the thrill of saving their pennies as children so they can afford to take the train or the bus to spend summers by the sea.

However, as lives change, there isn’t always the possibility to take trips to be coast – or families may move further inland, meaning trips to the sea can be more difficult to fit in.

Care homes in England are designed to be a home from home; a place for elderly people to go to get assistance in the latter years of their lives. As they have become more popular, they have also become more advanced. Developments in training have meant even more qualified staff are able to work with elderly people and new technology has made it a more comfortable place to be for residents.

At the time of the 2001 Census, 440,000 people in Great Britain were either living, or planning to live in a care home for more than six months of the year. Of these, 80 per cent were above the state pension age and mostly cared for by private sector care homes. However, moving into a care home isn’t always an easy decision to make, for fear of losing independence or relying too heavily on others.

Families often try and accommodate elderly members of the family but this isn’t always possible. Therefore care homes are there to enhance the quality of a persons life. From the small things such as letting residents bring their own possessions into their rooms, to the larger things such as staff providing trips out of the home or being there just for a chat and some company.

Care home staff are trained to the highest standards and many nursing homes employ people on the basis of their warmth, friendliness and caring attitude.

Many homes now have facilities within them, such as dentists, hairdressers and chiropodists to make the experience even more benefitting for the people using the services.

So, to have a care home in a seaside resort seems like the ideal way for residents to enjoy their later years and rekindle memories of days gone by.

One such resort to accommodate care homes in recent years is the Suffolk town of Felixstowe. Situated on the North Sea coast, 15 miles east of Ipswich and home to one of the largest container ports in the UK, Felixstowe is a popular place for elderly people to live and visit.

Two care homes in Felixstowe are owned by Healthcare Homes, a leading East Anglian healthcare provider with 23 homes across the region. Mill Lane, a care home in Felixstowe along with Foxgrove residential home provide a range of services for older people.

Being by the sea means residents are able to get out and about to sample the sea air and both homes are situated in quiet areas of the town away from the hustle and bustle and busy streets.

Both Foxgrove care home in Felixstowe and Mill Lane have activities co-ordinators to make sure residents get the best possible care during their time there – combined with the views and sea air it makes it the idea location to be.
