April 26, 2011 - PRLog -- From gels to trays to kits, it seems that new products enter the market nearly everyday promising more radiant, whiter smiles. Most people have probably purchased at least one tube of whitening toothpaste, and may even have tried more targeted methods of teeth-whitening. But do these products really work?

According to “How to Whiten Teeth at Home”--http://howtowhitenteethathome.us --editor, Mark Redding, whitening toothpastes can be very effective: people who brush their teeth twice a day according to instructions “can typically expect [their] teeth to appear up to three shades whiter.”

Whitening toothpastes are safe for everyday use, and they work for people with mild to moderate yellowing of the teeth. They also very convenient to use, since teeth brushing is already part of a normal good hygiene regimen.

While more moderately priced than other methods of whitening, the results take longer to appear when compared with whitening trays or whitening strips. This is because the tooth whitening ingredient, usually hydrogen peroxide, stays in contact with the teeth for such a short amount of time as compared with the other methods. In addition, people with more severe discoloration will probably want to consider other options, since these toothpastes may not deliver the desired results.

For those who want more immediate and noticeable results, both trays and strips are great choices. Whitening trays usually offer the highest concentration of hydrogen peroxide as well as a very good way of holding the peroxide in place around the targeted teeth, making them the most effective way of whitening teeth. Redding says, “trays are known for whitening your teeth by up to 5-7 shades in a pretty short amount of time.”

Whitening strips are also very effective and allow the user to move through normal tasks such as shopping or talking on the phone without any inconvenience. The strips are harder to keep on the teeth as compared with trays, however, and may slip or crinkle.

Whatever method a person chooses, there are many affordable products, and many of these are offered online for less than what is found in conventional store fronts. There has never been a better time to take the white teeth challenge.
