April 11, 2011 - PRLog -- (Washington, DC) – The first Closet Runway of 2011 on March 25 was an overwhelming success, attracting approximately 150 people, including boutique owners, ‘fashionistas’ and everyday people from various walks of life. Four very humble men and women were ecstatic with the live makeovers Closet Runway producers provided, which transformed the hard-working women to divas and laid back men to GQ. During the show, attendees learned to create perfect runway looks straight from their closets, as each makeover included repurposed and new fashions.  The fashion show by Gossip on 23rd, Soria’s Closet, Critique Boutique and Exclusively Styled included ready-to-wear spring fashions.  A portion of the proceeds, were donated to the Board of Child Care.

“I enjoyed how ecstatic the makeover models were to strut down the runway in their new wardrobes. In fact, one lady wanted a new wardrobe after she lost 50 pounds. She told us that during the shopping, she was amazed at how she could finally fit in smaller sizes…Well, when it was her turn to show us her new outfit, she definitely showed us,” said attendee Vivi Nmezi.

“Closet Runway started the year off with a great show. We received a lot of positive feedback on the variety of spring fashions featured on the runway. People commented on how they saw outfits on models that were their size and realized they could wear styles they never thought would look good on them. To us that’s a mission accomplished,” said Tami Harrigan, co-producer.

“The arts and entertainment is an exciting and vital part of Closet Runway. We introduced local artist Nikea Jones, spoken word artist Jordon Brooks and visual artist Lorina Harris who helped complete what Closet Runway is all about - merging fashion with entertainment and the arts,” said NeShea Jenifer, co-producer.

“I want to thank Neshea and Tami for my great makeover.  I would like to also thank Lynette Jackson at Prosperity Hair Salon (Laurel, MD)  for the great work she did on my hair and makeup. Tami and Neshea really renewed my mind concerning casual wear and I will continue with my transformation,” said Makeover Model Karon Mack.

Closet Runway Cycle 2: Show 1 followed five successful events that began last spring at Ebenezer ‘s Coffeehouse. After raving reviews from attendees and participating boutiques, organizers NeShea Jenifer an event planner and owner of J Witt Events and Tami Harrigan, personal stylist and owner of Exclusively Styled decided to make the show bigger and better this year.

Special thanks to sponsors Prosperity Hair and Beauty Salon in Laurel, Maryland, Kas Collection, Inc. and Makeup Artist Miss Simply Rae.
