Smt. Sheila Dikshit inaugurates Sudha Pillai’s Art Show - “Avril II – Joy of Living”
Smt. Sheila Dikshit, Hon’ble Chief Minister of Delhi inaugurated, today, the solo art show of Ms. Sudha Pillai (Member-Secretary of the Planning Commission, GOI) at a glittering event, at 26, Prithviraj Road.
The occasion was graced by the presence of eminent dignitaries like Kapila Vatsyayan - Rajya Sabha MP & a leading Indian Scholar of Arts, Arpana Caur- Distinguished Contemporary Indian Painter, H.E. Mr. Jérôme Bonnafont- Ambassador, Embassy of France, Keshav Malik - an eminent Indian Poet, Arts Scholar & Curator, and Alka Pande - Art Consultant & Curator. Apart from these, many other prominent VIP’S, Ambassadors and art connoisseurs were also present to appreciate Ms. Pillai’s artworks.
During the occasion, Ms. Pillai said, “When I start painting, I do not have anything in mind. The painting takes shape as I draw.” According to her, painting reaches deep into the psyche - even subliminal thoughts one may not be aware of find ready expression with a brush.
She feels while she has chosen subjects that are of direct concern and relevance to her, she is well aware of the fact that “painting has to be distilled through a lot of motifs. It cannot be direct, otherwise it becomes propaganda. There should be certain amount of ambiguity in it.”
Talking about her latest compositions, she said her paintings celebrate life in its infinite manifestations and in creation and creativity.
Many art connoisseurs felt her sketches and paintings automatically draw the onlooker to a contemplation of nature and the various colours and forms that help celebrate life.
“I would like to continue to paint, grow in my paintings and grow through them”, Ms. Sudha Pillai.
Mr. Meattle, while looking at the artworks, remarked, "Sudha Pillai's works are great value for money.
Besides, it will be money well spent as 1/3 of the sale proceeds will go to support Al Gore's - The Climate Project - India, for supporting Delhi Government's initiative in taking the Climate message to 5,000 schools in Delhi covering 1 million children in the next few months. It was the children that said No to Crackers at Diwali and we hope that this program will make a difference and bring change to Delhi."
The artworks will be on display from April 4 – April 10, 2011, time: 9 am – 6 pm, at PBC Art Gallery, Paharpur Business Centre, Nehru Place Greens, New Delhi – 110 019.
