Dear Ms. Murray,   I am sure you are well aware of the global awareness that this disgusting abuse and neglect of Patrick by his owner Kisha Curtis ...has reached. I am not alone when I write that I find it disgusting that the mandatory sentence for this heinous crime is only 18 months in jail and this person may possibly be set free with a slap on her wrist.   One needs to wonder if not sent to jail what will she torture next? Her child, a neighbors pet, her mother, a stranger? Could her next step be closer to killing someone or another innocent animal? She almost did kill Patrick and to walk away with out a severe jail time sentence would be to mock the justice system we are all bound by.   Ms. Curtis needs to be set as an example that people can not abuse living creatures that can not fight back. She needs to spend a long time in jail to think about her actions. We need to send the word out to everyone that this type of cruelty and abuse is not going to be tolerated. You can NOT starve your dog and throw him in a chute after you place him inside a garbage bag. A living creature is NOT garbage. You can NOT leave a dog tied up and just go away for a week or so and hope someone else will take care of the dog. You can not allow a dog to deteriorate to the near death condition that Patrick was in when found. We can NOT allow her to walk away from the court system with just a slap on her wrist.   IF the system does that, more abusers will start abusing animals, more people will laugh at our justice system. Next, it will escalate to their children and then what will the system say? That would be a travesty, this is a travesty. Justice and severe and proper jail time is the only answer for Ms. Curtis and all the other abusers out there.   Your court system will have everyone in all corners of the world watching. Your court system will be setting an example and will either help to stop abusers or give them a feeling of relief and feel that animals are nothing but trash, like Kisha did.         You must sentence her to many years of jail time. You must be the voice of Patrick and all the other poor abused animals out there. Kisha must be the first of many to understand completely that we will not allow her to walk away with a slap to her wrist, it is simply not acceptable.     The country and world will be watching at her next hearing. Please administer the correct penalty. Please do not let her walk away from the heinous crime she committed on this beautiful and innocent dog. The world is watching. Essex County is now on the map, not in a good way but you can set it straight and punish Ms. Curtis to the extreme to show that your county does care and will not allow such crimes to continue to occur.   Thank you,   Dolores Paddock
