Oklahoma Veterans Committee Elects New Officers

The Oklahoma Democratic Party Veterans Committee (ODPVC) has elected Isaac M. O’Bannon as its new president, along with a new vice president and secretary.

March 28, 2011 - PRLog -- OKLAHOMA CITY – March 28, 2011 – The Oklahoma Democratic Party Veterans Committee (ODPVC) has elected Isaac M. O’Bannon as its new president, along with a new vice president and secretary. The election of officers was conducted during the committee’s general membership meeting, which was held Saturday at the Oklahoma Democratic Party’s headquarters in Oklahoma City.

“Oklahoma’s veterans deserve honor and respect for the service they gave to their country, and I will work hard to help protect the benefits and services that they have earned,” O’Bannon said. “I’m honored to have the opportunity to lead such a great organization, providing a voice for veterans’ issues in the state, and helping to elect Democratic candidates who share our vision.” As president of the ODPVC, O’Bannon will also be a member of the state party’s central committee and will be a delegate to the Oklahoma Democratic Party convention.

The Norman resident is a technology writer and editor for a national magazine and also provides consulting services. He served in the U.S. Navy as a “SeaBee” construction equipment operator, achieving NCO rank, with deployments to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Puerto Rico and Okinawa, Japan. Following his enlistment, O’Bannon attended the University of Oklahoma, where he received a B.A. in journalism/public relations.

Other officers elected at the membership meeting included the selection of former committee president Dennis Weese to the position of vice president, Katherine Scheirman was reelected as treasurer, and Jack Farley was selected as the committee’s new secretary. Calvin Rees was selected to fill the vacant HD-5 representative seat.

The Oklahoma Democratic Party Veterans Committee is an organization of veterans of the U.S. armed forces and supporting citizens, whose mission is to actively promote and help elect Democratic candidates who are dedicated to supporting and ensuring the well-being of veterans and active duty military personnel.
