Useful Tips on How to Write Fiction

March 18, 2011 - PRLog -- March 18, 2011:When first researching how to write a fiction book, the very first thing one needs to do, even before plotting, characterization, etc., is to decide what type of novel this is going to be.

Even though Fiction Writing is a talent and every writer develops his own method of writing instinctively, only a combination of talent, careful planning, persistent hard work, and patience can produce a good literary work. It is, therefore, advisable for one as a writer to be precise and avoid rushing work, bearing in mind that every literary work takes form in stages.

Basically, there are three stages: conception, gestation and delivery stages.

Conception stage refers to the moment when the idea of a story occurs to the fiction writer. It usually occurs either during a conversation, at a quite lonely moment, while driving, when strolling or in a dream. It could also be inspired by an incident of a high emotional impact. It is advisable for one to have a piece of paper and a pen with him so that anytime and anywhere the idea occurs; he could quickly jot it down.

The period under which the idea takes root is the gestation period. Keep turning the idea or the story line over and over in the mind and continue to update it on paper as it develops. As time goes on, one would discover that the story is not only gathering momentum but he is becoming more familiar with the setting, character and other components of the work.

And, by the time one gets to the delivery stage, he would gather most of the necessary materials – the building blocks for the work. He would have also become so familiar with the story that he could tell it easily and convincingly.

The delivery stage is the final phase. At this point, one would develop the work fully, based on the synopsis. However, there is no rule binding one strictly to the synopsis; it only serves as a guide.
