March 17, 2011 - PRLog -- La Pedrera or Casa Milà is the most visited house in Barcelona. However, Barcelona modernist architecture has much more to offer its visitors. What are the other modernist houses which are worth a visit?

La Pedrera or Casa  Milà. Popularly known as Gaudí's house.
Located on Passeig de Gràcia and built between 1906 and 1910, it is one of the most important, beautiful works of Antoni Gaudí. Its façade reminds of  the waves of the Mediterranean sea and stone warriors guard the building on the top of the roof.

Casa Batlló.
Located on Passeig de Gràcia,43 and renovated by Gaudi in 1907. That futuristic, modernist block of flats shows a mosaic facade with ochre, blue and green ceramics, and iron balconies. Its roof reminds of the back of a dragon. But don't just take photos of the façade, go into the building and discover what other surprises Gaudi created for you.

Casa Lleó Morera
Located on Passeig de Gràcia 35, it is part of the Block of Discord. It was designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. It was not named after its owner, but after the motifs in the decorations. These motifs are the lion (lleó) and the mulberry tree (morera).

Casa Amatller
Next to Casa Batlló, at Passeig de Gràcia 41, this modernist house was built between 1898 and 1900 and designed by the Catalan modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. It is one of the most important buildings of the Block of Discord, along with Casa Batlló and Casa Lleó Morera.

Casa Terrades
Also known as Casa de les Punxes (needles house), this modernist house is a six sided apartment block built in 1905 and designed by the modernist architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The building is a mixture of Gothic and Renaissance styles along with modernist red brick and its ornamentation. This house is located on the Avinguda Diagonal, quite near La Pedrera.

Palau Güell
The Catalan industrial tycoon Eusebi Güell commissioned this town mansion to Gaudi in the 1880s and it was finished in 1890. You can find it in the district of the Raval. This modernist palace welcomes its visitors with an iron gate, parabolic arches and bright colours. Nevertheless, it's now closed due to restoration which is planned to be finished next month.

Casa Museu Gaudí
Antoni Gaudí lived in this house between 1906 and 1926, a few months before he was tragically hit by a tram. The house was not designed by Gaudi, but by his friend Francesc Berenguer. If you want to see the study and bedroom where Gaudi spent his last years of life as he left them, go to Parc Güell and enter the house which has been converted into a museum.

Palau de la Música Catalana
Very near Plaza Catalunya, the Palace of Catalan Music was designed by Domènech i Montaner and finished in 1908.  At the corner of the  red-brick facade, a huge sculpture symbolising the Catalan folk song welcomes its visitors. The auditorium is the most beautiful concert hall of Barcelona, with a dome of blue and gold stained glass, gorgeous paintings and sculptures of the muses who inspire the musicians playing at the Palau.

Casa Fuster
This modernist house is now one of the most emblematic hotels of the Hoteles Center chain. It is a luxury hotel located in the heart of Barcelona which symbolizes the spirit of modernism designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner. The rooftop terrace is a viewpoint where guests can see all Passeig de Gràcia, the Tibidabo and Gaudi's Sagrada Familia.

Castell dels Tres Dragons
At one of the entrances to the Parc de la Ciutadella, this castle designed by Domènech I Montaner hosts the Zoology Museum of Barcelona. This modernist building was originally designed to be a café-rRestaurant for the 1888 Universal Exhibition. The Castle of the Three Dragons has typical modernist features: battlement towers, red brick walls, and colorful ceramic shields.
