Follow on Google News | Malicious Android Apps Removed – GoogleIn an action to improve the security of Android Apps, Google removed several apps from the Android Market. The said apps are capable of downloading user and device's information.
By: Oglacs Team This action has been taken up keeping in view the discovery that certain pirated versions of legitimate Android Apps in the Android Market were infected by a virus, Trojan, called DroidDream. An employee of a software development company, Jerry Banks, was worried that he might have downloaded such dangerous apps but was assured of safety when Google announced that, these apps would be removed from handsets remotely. Google said that handsets and devices running on versions earlier than version 2.2.2 are the only devices susceptible to these applications. Google believes that the information accessed by the apps were the specific codification which is used to identify a device's model and version of Android on which it was running on. However, those handsets which already downloaded these apps would be saved by using a kill switch to remove the apps from the devices remotely. Affected users will receive an e-mail from Android Market Support which enclose an explanation on the action. These all statements are according to a post in the Google Mobile Blog. Each mobile or web application development company and the developers associated with the development of such applications are suspended and further action will be taken. The said apps are considered malicious because it can not only extract users and device's information but also have the capability of downloading codes which can inflict further damage. more info: http://www.oglacs.com End
