Why bamboo is the new Green!

Ever wonder why so many people are turning to Bamboo for eco-friendliness? Wonder no more, we got the answers to 'Why Bamboo?'.

March 2, 2011 - PRLog -- Why Bamboo?

Bamboo (a tropical grass with an amazing root system) is a renewable resource that reaches maturity at about 4 years. Some bamboo species can even grow up to 4 feet per 24 hours and can be harvested every 3-4 years! Compare that to the typical 25 to 70 years for commercial trees to grow and the 10 to 20 years for harvesting (of softwoods), and you got a no-brainer.

Most people are familiar with bamboo. In fact, we wouldn’t be surprised if you own a bamboo plant. They are very common in household across the World, and even more so in Asian homes. But what most people don’t know is that there are over 1,000 documented uses for bamboo and over 1,500 different species.

Many people also don’t know that when bamboo is made into a fabric the softness is equal to that of silken cashmere. Bamboo fabric is very soft and luxurious, but bamboo also is thermal regulating, meaning it helps keep you cool in the summer, and warm in the winter.

Bamboo fabric is also anti-static and odor resistant. In addition to be hypoallergenic, bamboo also absorbs water 3 to 4 times better than traditional cotton. This allows the skin to stay dry and comfortable, especially during those hot summer days.

Bamboo is also great for the environment in that the bamboo roots help stabilizes the earth, preventing it from erosion. Bamboo also helps convert 35% more greenhouse gases into oxygen than standard trees.  It is even believed that if bamboo were to replace that of conventional hardwood flooring, building materials, cotton clothing, and wood furniture and household products, the global warming effects would be completely reversed in 6 years! Bamboo has a tensile strength stronger than that of mild steel, plus termites refuse to eat it, which makes it perfect for building material.

Bamboo, usually grown organic, that is made into fabric uses less pesticides as well.  Compare that to commercial cotton, which uses seven of the top 15 pesticides that are “possible”, “likely”, “probable”, or “known” human carcinogens and why would someone want to buy non-organic cotton again.

So EcoHealthyLivingShop.com, an eco-friendly online store, is very dedicated to this wonder grass and carrying products made from the renewable resource. Most of bamboo products are in fabric form.
Like the 100% bamboo bath towel set, and the bamboo sheet set. They also carry the clothing line by Jonano, which carry women’s clothing made from organic bamboo, hemp and cotton. You can also find bamboo bedding on the site.
