March 23, 2011 - PRLog -- Most of us are always on a time crunch, but if we just remember to breathe, life will become that much more easier.

"Whether you think you can or think you can't, either way you are right." H. Ford was right in saying this. Just believe you can make a difference, and make the change and health and happiness will be sure to follow.

Here are the simple steps to begin your journey. And remember you can take one step at a time.

Recycle
Possibly the most significant thing we can do is Recycle. There are many programs out there that offer recycling services. You can choose, in some cases, to recycle at home and have the recycling service pick up your recyclable products every week, it's kind of the same as the garbage service.  Or you can find Recycling centers. It is as easy as going to earth911.com. Just remember to do a little research before disposing of certain items like electronics or batteries. These items sometimes have certain precautions. Also rinse out any glass, or aluminum cans you have before recycling them.

Switch to Energy efficient Lighting
The switch is simple and easy and not only saves the environment, but also your wallet. You can be saving 25% in lighting bills by just switching to these fluorescent light bulbs. With the Green Movement growing the industry has come out with some "normal" looking fluorescent light bulbs. Plus, did you know that these bulbs are easier on the eyes, and yet they do not loose the brightness quality ? They also have a longer lifetime and produce 75% less heat than a standard bulb. (Keep in mind these bulbs sometimes can cost more than a standard bulb, however they save you money in the long run.)

Use Energy-Star Appliances
There is a rating system Energy Star uses to rate products that make them environmentally friend. These products range from ovens to air conditioners to heating appliances. Of them all you really want to use Energy Star rated Heating appliances and solutions as Heating takes up on average a total of 29% of Energy usage in homes. These solutions include changing your air filter, Tuning up your HVAC equipment yearly, installing a programmable thermostat,  and sealing your heating and cooling ducts and any other areas in the home where heat can escape including your window and door seals. Energy star windows and proper installation can save anywhere from $20 to $95 per Year!

Conserve Water
Speaking of saving money, You can easily save money by conserving water. There are many ways to conserve water. (I think I might write another blog post on steps on doing so at a later date.) Some of us already know how to save water, but for those of us who don't just remember:
While brushing your teeth, shut off the water. If you need water, fill a 8 oz glass of water and use that water to rinse your mouth and tooth brush. Also there are some shower filters that conserve water. It's called gpm or gallons per minute. Try using a 2 gpm shower head. Another major way to conserve water is check your house for leaks. Another tip is to water your lawn and not your sidewalk/patio and also at during the right time of day. These are just a few tips, but in mean time there is a water challenge from the state of AZ... I know not everyone lives in AZ but the challenge pretty much applies to every state. So check it out. http://wateruseitwisely.com/region/arizona/water-challenge/

Plant a Garden/ (nurture) Houseplants
Yes Gardening and household plants. Gardening is a great way to save money as well. Planting and attending a garden also releases tension and stress as well burning calories, plus it adds color to your life and diet. Eating from a home (organic) garden is a fantastic way to be eco-friendly. Plus there are garden kits yo can buy if you live in an apartment and find yourself without a backyard. As far as houseplants,  they are great for reducing the air pollution in your home. The EPA have studies showing that the air quality in homes is significantly more polluted than that of the outdoors! Who knew? Well if you think about it, it does make sense. Most of us leave our windows shut, plus pets, cleaning products, paint and furniture add to the problem (so keep all those factors in mind.) By adding plants to your home you are not only cleaning the air but you are also adding benefits to your healthy, and home. They also add beauty to our home. Just remember plants are alive and need tending to, and they also absorb energy... including negative energy (ie the tension from an argument) so remember to regularly water them, add organic feed, if necessary, and (some people even find it comforting to) talk to their plants. "Every rock and tree and creature has a life, has a spirit, has a name..."

Make the Switch to Eco-Friendly Cleaning Products
Now, there are a lot of eco friendly cleaning products out there. You can visit http://www.ecohealthylivingshop.com/cleaning-products.html for some ideas. Making the switch is not only a good idea, it is almost crucial. Not only do cleaning products contain chemicals that are toxic to the environment but also to you, your children and pets, and household plants. You can even make your own household cleaning products.

Use Recycled Paper Products
Using recycled paper products saves trees plain and simple. Using recycled paper eliminates the need to cut down more trees, which in essences saves the rain forests. Which in turns saves millions of living creatures and species. Buy using recycled, or eco paper you are also saving energy- 60-70% energy savings over virgin pulp.
And did you know the paper industry is the 3rd largest user of energy in the U.S? Save a tree, heck save a rainforest and buy post consumer paper or eco paper.  Some eco friendly products can be found here: http://www.ecohealthylivingshop.com/gifts-toys-more.html
