March 1, 2011 - PRLog -- Both systems are specifically designed for small and medium-sized businesses who need a high-performance, easy to manage, and full-featured network attached storage solution to centralize data backups, protect critical assets and share files across different platforms.
SimplyNAS commenced integration after extensive testing and found the Hitachi branded 3TB hard disk drives to be most reliable, and cost effective solution within all the 3TB product categories. Synology provides a sophisticated yet easy to use NAS operating system that incorporates a Multitasking user interface. The Synology DiskStation Manager 3.0 is sleek and robust for managing storage and comes with an abundance of useful features for both home and business alike. Aside from supporting iSCSI, the Synology DMS supports a useful set of filesystems one of which is EXT4 which no longer limits you to a volume size, now supporting large volumes with sizes up to 1 Exabyte (EB), which is 1 million TB, thus eliminating the drawbacks EXT3 had but retains all the compatibility and other features.
DSM 3.0 also has a neat feature called Hybrid RAID (SHR), an intelligent volume type that optimizes volume size when combining hard disks of varying sizes. When set as the standard volume type in DSM 3.0, SHR provides one-disk data protection and the flexibility of expanding to an optimal volume space when a larger or additional hard disk is inserted into the array.  One of the other disk based feature is the flexible options for volume expansion and growth. As far as HDD expansion is concerned, volumes can be expanded whenever the need arises by adding drives to the array, replacing drives with those of larger capacity, or simply adding a Synology expansion unit to compatible models. With just a few clicks in the volume manager, the new, larger volume will be created and ready to use.
As for backups, there is a neat feature called Data Replicator 3 which is inclusive allowing Windows users  to back up desktop data, Outlook®, and Outlook Express® emails to their Synology DiskStation with the flexibility of three backup modes: Immediate, Sync, and Scheduled.  These are just a few of the features associated many other features can be viewed at our website or at Synology’s web site as well.
The full range of Synology products also now include the new 3TB drives allowing the DS1511+ to expand by simply adding compatible Synology expansion units.
