Tues 15th Mar 11:

1.30: Stan James Supreme Novices' Hurdle: Open to horses aged four years and older, the Supreme Novices' Hurdle is the traditional curtain raiser of the Cheltenham Festival. The novice hurdlers have to negotiate eight hurdles over the two mile, half furlong trip.

2.05: Irish Independent Arkle Challenge Trophy Steeple Chase: Also known as the Arkle Trophy Chase or simply the Arkle Chase, the second race of the Cheltenham Festival is run over the minimum distance of two miles and features twelve fences to be jumped. Of the current jockeys, Tony McCoy has the most Arkle wins to his name with three - the last being on Well Chief in 2004.

2.40: Stewart Family Spinal Research Handicap Chase: Last year this race was won by 33/1 shot Chief Dan George.

3.20: Stan James Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy: The feature race of Cheltenham Festival's opening day, the Stan James Champion Hurdle is the most prestigious hurdling event of the year. First run in 1927, there are eight hurdles to be jumped along the two mile, half furlong trip, and the winner's list is a whose who of past hurdling greats. The most successful Champion Hurdle trainer of the modern era is Nicky Henderson, who has won five renewals.

4.00: Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Steeple Chase: First run in 2005, Enda Bolger is the trainer worth following here with 4 wins in 6 renewals to date.

4.40: David Nicholson Mares' Hurdle Race: Named in honour of the legendary jockey and trainer David Nicholson, this race is open to mares aged four or older over a two mile, four furlong trip. Having been established in 2008, this is one of the newest races on the Cheltenham Festival calendar, though Willie Mullins has clearly taken a shine to it as he landed the last two renewals with Quevega.

5.15: Centenary Novices' Handicap Chase: A Class A listed chase, the race has been re-named for the 2011 festival (having formerly been known as the Jewson Novices Handicap Hurdle).

Wed 16th Mar 11:

1.30: National Hunt Steeple Chase Challenge Cup: Open to novices aged five years and upwards, this is only open to amateur jockeys and is the oldest race at the festival.

2.05: Neptune Investment Management Novices' Hurdle: Established in 1971, this is run over two miles, five furlongs, and is open to all novice hurdlers over the age of four. This is a race that tends to be won by five and six year-olds - this age group have won every renewal since 1999. Willie Mullins has a good recent record, having teamed up with Ruby Walsh to win in both 2008 (Fiveforthree) and 2009 (Mikael d'Haguenet).

2.40: RSA Steeple Chase: This novice chasing event is commonly known for producing several Cheltenham Gold Cup winners over the years, most recently Denman in 2007. Seven year-olds have an excellent record in the RSA Chase, having won eleven of the last thirteen renewals, while trainer Willie Mullins has won three of the last twelve.

3.20: sportingbet.com Queen Mother Champion Steeple Chase: The flagship event of day two, the Champion Chase is the leading minimum distance event of its kind in the National Hunt calendar. First run in 1959, its name has been associated with the Queen Mother since 1980 as recognition of her support to National Hunt racing. . Big Zeb took his crown, with Barry Geraghty on board.

4.00: Coral Cup: The Coral Cup is a very competitive betting heat which often throws up some big price winners - only one favourite has won since 1994.

4.40: Fred Winter Juvenile Handicap Hurdle: Named after a true legend of racing, this is a listed race open only to four year old novices and was first run in 2005.

5.15: Weatherbys Champion Bumper: The Champion Bumper is the only flat race of the festival and has been dominated by Irish trainers in recent years.

Thurs 17th Mar 11:

1.30: Jewson Novices' Steeple Chase: Having only been added in 2005, the Jewson is one of the newest races of the Cheltenham Festival. There are seventeen fences to be jumped over the two mile, five furlong trip, and it was added to the calendar with the addition of a fourth day at the festival five years ago. The 2010 renewal was won by 12/1 shot Copper Bleu.

2.05: Pertemps Final: Another huge betting race, the Pertemps Final can often throw up some surprises - there's been two 50/1 winners in the last 7 years!

2.40: Ryanair Chase: Another race that was only added in 2005, but already the Ryanair Chase is regarded as one of the best at the Cheltenham Festival. The Grade 1 event features a short but impressive winners list which includes Imperial Commander (2009), who went on to win the following year's Cheltenham Gold Cup. Last year saw Tony McCoy pick up his first win in the race on board Albertas Run.

3.20: Ladbrokes World Hurdle: Known as the Ladbrokes World Hurdle since 2005, the three mile stamina test has become the feature event of day three. This is a race that regularly produces multiple winners - think Baracouda (2002, 2003) Inglis Drever (2005, 2007, 2008) and Big Buck's (2009, 2010) in the last eight years alone.


4.00: Byrne Group Plate Handicap Steeple Chase: Venetia Williams and Nicky Henderson have dominated this race in recent years, winning 4 of the last 6 renewals.

4.40: Fulke Walwyn Kim Muir Challenge Cup Handicap Steeple Chase: Another amateur jockey's only race, older horses tend to do well with 4 of the last 5 winners being aged 9.

5.15: St. Patrick's Day Derby: A new race for the 2011 festival.

Fri 18th Mar 2011:

1.30: JCB Triumph Hurdle: First run in 1939, the Triumph Hurdle features top four year-olds who can often go on to compete in subsequent Champion Hurdles - a recent example of winning both was Katchit in 2007/08. Trainer Nicky Henderson has an outstanding Triumph Hurdle record

2.05 Vincent O'Brien County Handicap Hurdle: This race always produces a rip-roaring finish - with the last THREE winners priced 20/1 or bigger!

2.40: Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle: This Grade 1, three mile contest was added to the Cheltenham Festival calendar in 2005. Though open to novice hurdlers above the age of four, the last five consecutive winners have been either six or seven year-olds.

3.20: totesport Cheltenham Gold Cup Steeple Chase: The flagship event of the Festival, the Cheltenham Gold Cup is the most valuable non-handicap chase in Britain and boasts a winners list that includes the likes of Golden Miller, Arkle, Mill House and Kauto Star. Paul Nicholls held a stranglehold on the race from 2007 to 2009, when Kauto and Denman dominated the event, but last year saw Imperial Commander trump both of them to triumph by seven lengths for trainer Nigel Twiston-Davies.

4.00: Christie's Foxhunter Steeple Chase: Run over the same course and distance as the Gold Cup, this race usually sees a fascinating mix of experienced chasers and young point-to-pointers.

4.40: Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys' Handicap Hurdle: Only introduced in 2009, this race is mainly for horses who were eliminated from the Triumph Hurdle.

5.15: Johnny Henderson Grand Annual Steeple Chase: The final race of the 2011 Cheltenham Festival, there's always plenty of money staked here with punters trying to 'get out of jail'!
