The Future of Unions in America - In Jeopardy or Presenting a New Opportunity?

Are unions in America in jeopardy of losing control, or does the proposed new legislation in Wisconsin offer an opportunity for establishing a new way of doing business where all parties benefit?

Feb. 27, 2011 - PRLog -- There has been a lot of media coverage of the situation in Wisconsin this past week. With lawmakers poised to enact legislation affecting the bargaining power of unions many people are concerned about the future of unions in America.

People on both sides of the issue are legitimately concerned about protecting their interests. The lawmakers are attempting to control costs and the union members want to protect their ability to maintain their income and status of living.

The formation of unions in America is an example of people coming up with an effective solution to disparate goals and interests – the goals of the worker versus the goals of management/company ownership. Over time, however, growing inequities and changing goals mandate reviewing the process to ensure everyone’s goals are met. If this is not done, the whole system breaks apart and no one wins.

This is a situation being faced not just by unions in America but by people, groups and organizations in many areas. The health care system is just one more example of a system growing out of control and no longer meeting the goals it was designed to serve. With large corporations controlling the food supply and special interest groups influencing government officials who pass legislation on food safety regulations and health care, the American public cannot count on these firms or organizations for health promoting foods.

In such circumstances people have the choice of either going along with the new agenda or making a stand and fighting to maintain their rights and interests. This is the situation unions in America are currently facing, and obviously many people have decided their rights are worth fighting for and they are willing to take a stand.  Hopefully, there will be people on both sides that will take this opportunity to re-evaluate the current state of affairs and work on a mutually agreeable solution where both sides can win.
