Feb. 25, 2011 - PRLog -- New York, N.Y. – Avenue Pink, New York Urban League’s Young Professionals (NYULYP) and New York University’s (NYU) Wagner Black Student Alliance unite to host “The State of Young Black New York: Exploring Multiple Dimensions of Black Identity” (SOYBNY), a full day of conversations about contemporary notions of Black identity, at the NYU Kimmel Center (9th floor) on Saturday, February 26, from 9:30 a.m.-4 p.m. This interactive and landmark event, contextually held in the wake of Black History Month, was inspired by a spike of recent conversations addressing ideas of post-racial identity, professional, political and gender identity in a ‘post-Obama era.’

Featured Speakers include; Dr. Alvin Tillery, Dr. Gregory Carr, Felicia Pride, Esther Armah, Jeffery Robinson, Shaunice Hawkins, Monroe France, Michaela angela Davis, Bertha Lewis, Cynthia Gordy, Vaughn Crandall, and Glen Martin, with a Keynote address by Kevin Powell. The perceptions and ideas shared are thought to be a vital step in understanding and advancing the collective understanding of the Black Diaspora defined, particularly as it relates to identity, among young Black New Yorkers.

Partners for this event include Yum! Brands; National Alliance of Market Developers – NY Chapter, National Association of Black Accountants - NY Chapter, The Brooklyn/Long Island graduate chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha and official media partners The Root.com, NV Magazine, and Avenue Pink.

Although registration for this free event is now closed, a post event mixer will be held at Vyne Wine Bar, 82 West 3rd Street New York, NY beginning at 5pm and is open to the public. Additionally, Avenue Pink will host a LIVE Twittercast at www.twitter.com/AvenuePink with event updates and speaker interviews. For more information about SOYBNY, visit www.soybny.com.
