-----------------------------------

GOING: TAPETA: Standard; TURF: Good.

14:25 - WAR MONGER looked flattered by being able to set soft fractions when scoring over 9f last week but Doug Watson’s 7yo may has a decent chance of repeating the trick given none of his rivals usually race close to the pace. Richard Hills is one of the best jockey’s around at judging tempo from the front and War Monger, although up 6lb, could be hard to reel in if allowed to do his own thing up front. The drop back to 10f and possibility of a tactical race are negatives to the chance of fellow last time out winner Hunting Tower.

Dangers: Lolamar and Yirga – Compare Betting Odds

15:00 - Meeris bolted up at Jebel Ali (dirt) last time and isn’t opposed lightly but this can go to STAR EMPIRE who didn’t appear to get home over 1m6f in a Listed contest last week (every chance out but weakened final half furlong) but Mike De Kock’s relatively unexposed 5yo will be hard to beat on the form of his previous handicap success over 12f, providing he gets a decent gallop (at least two confirmed front runners so truly run race looks on the cards). Prizefighting has been knocking loudly at the door and can’t be ruled out either.

Dangers: Prizefighting and Meeris – Compare Betting Odds

15:40 - There is a slight concern about the bounce factor given ORIFE is back out just six days after his return to action last week but the French raider will be hard to beat if building on a fine second over C&D, where he stayed on strongly in the closing stages to get within half a length of War Artist, who is likely to head for the big sprint on World Cup night. That form is obviously strong in the context of this handicap, but he’ll need to break better given he is boxed in stall 1, as another slow start could mean curtains almost instantly. Silaah ran as well as he has ever done when second to Green Beret here last week and appeals as the biggest danger.

Dangers: Silaah and Sir Gerry – Compare Betting Odds

16:15 - It’s too early to write off Dear Bela, who was second in a Group 1 in Argentina on penultimate start but was bitterly disappointing when pulled up on UAE debut. It is no surprise though that Frankie Dettori has opted for stablemate SAHARA KINGDOM who will be well suited by the return to Tapeta having shaped encouragingly on his turf reappearance two weeks ago, when 4l behind Raihana, who gave the form a nice boost when going close in a Group 2 event last week. The Cozzene colt has still to conclusively prove he stays this far but he still looks a good bet in an otherwise open handicap.

Dangers: Sweet Lightning and Solid Choice – Compare Betting Odds

16:55 - Stall 11 means it won’t be as easy for Lord Of The Stars to dominate like he did over 7f here at the beginning of the month and David Simcock looks to have a stronger chance with AHLAAIN who was beaten 4l by Lord Of The Stars but was noted putting in some good late work and the return to 1m looks just the ticket for this US-bred colt. He is entitled to come on plenty for that first start since September and William Buick, who was on board when the colt won his maiden last summer, returns to the saddle.

Dangers: Janood and Manchester – Compare Betting Odds

17:35 - Electric waves, winner of four races in Britain last summer for Ed McMahon (latest was Cornwallis Stakes at Ascot in October), is a fascinating contender on UAE debut but this is a huge step up in trip for a filly who has never previously raced beyond 5f, and it is complete guesswork as to whether she will see this out. The safer option is obviously UAE 1000 Guineas winner MAHBOOBA, champion juvenile filly in South Africa last year, who won that contest in impressive style despite being unsuited by the steady tempo. Her trainer Mike De Kock thinks that Mahbooba is ‘every bit as good, if not better’ than Raihana, who won this race last year, and she’ll be a warm order to continue De Kock’s incredible run at the carnival.

Dangers: Electric and Khawlah – Compare Betting Odds

18:15 - A warm handicap in which several have decent claims. SWOP ran a blinder on his first run since October when staying on strongly over 7f here earlier in the month and, with that run under his belt and the step up to 1m looking ideal, Luca Cumani’s 8yo looks sure to be a major player, despite the wide draw.

Dangers: Kavango and Warsaw – Compare Betting Odds
