13:20 Espirito Santo Investment Bank Novices' Hurdle - 2m 3f: TORNADO BOB is the call in the opener at the Berkshire track. The McCain team are in great nick at present, while although this will be his hardest test to date, he’s was ultra-impressive last time out at Leicester and will absolutely love the testing underfoot conditions.

13:50 Sodexo Prestige Reynoldstown Novices' Chase - 3m: Nicky Henderson took this 12 months ago with Burton Port and I think they can go in again with MASTER OF THE HALL.  We last saw him winning at Huntingdon in the soft, so the ground will be to his liking, while more importantly he’s got winning form here at Ascot – when taking a Beginners’ Chase here last November.

14:25 Weatherbys Bloodstock Insurance Chase (Listed Limited Handicap) - 3m: ROYAL TUNE makes the trip over from France and that should be noted, as when this stable raid these shores they rarely leave empty-handed. We last saw him over here winning at Ffos Las over 2m5f, but that was on soft ground, and despite being raised 16lbs I think he’s a horse to follow in this type of grade.

15:00 Betfair Ascot Chase (Grade 1) - 2m 5f: Riverside Theatre and Pride of Dulcote will dominate the betting, but I think TARTAK can spoil the party. Yes, another runner would be better for each-way purposes, but Tom George’s charge has never been in better form after wins at Newbury and Cheltenham. Ok, so he won’t want the ground to be much more testing, but the track should suit and the way he ran on last time at Cheltenham over this trip was a very good sign.

15:35 Betfair Mobile Handicap Hurdle - 2m 3f: Popular LOUGH DERG can go close here for the Pipe team who won this race back in 2002 and 2003. This brave front-runner is sure to make a bold bid from the front and he does seem to run some of his better races here at Ascot - backed up by his recent third here last month in the race won by Tiger O’Toole.

16:05 Trisoft 'National Hunt' Novices' Hurdle - 2m: Henderson looks to have another strong hand here in the shape of SPRINTER SACRE, who’s won three of his of four career starts – two in NH Hunt Flat races. His only defeat came over further, when second here back in November, but despite having to give weight away all round this drop back in trip will suit as will the underfoot conditions and the previous track experience.

Haydock Park Betting Odds

13:40 toteplacepot Victor Ludorum Juvenile Hurdle - 2m: Steve Gollings’ charge LOCAL HERO is the call here. He’s now 3-from-3 over hurdles with wins at Wetherby, Doncaster and Cheltenham and despite not jumping that well last time the he’s still learning the game and I was actually really impressed with the way he knuckled down up the hill to win that race by 2 lengths. He can take this before trying his luck back at Prestbury Park for the JCB Triumph Hurdle.

14:10 Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle (Registered As The Prestige Novices' Hurdle) (Grade 2) - 3m: Court In Motion will be a warm order here are scooting up at Warwick last month and a good run here will see his price shorten for both the Albert Bartlett and the Neptune Investment next month – races he’s entered in next month at the festival. That said, the value call could be to side with LIVELY BARON who’s done nothing wrong winning his last three outings. The second of those wins also came here at Haydock back in November, while although this longer trip is a slight unknown I can’t see any reason that he won’t stay – he’s entered in the Albert Bartlett at the festival too.

14:45 totescoop6 Hurdle (Registered As The Rendlesham Hurdle) (Grade 2) - 3m: Another fascinating contest here despite only six runners heading to post. Any Given Day will be popular to bounce back from his recent second behind Oscar Whisky at Cheltenham, but I think Alan King’s BENSALEM ran well for much of the Cleeve Hurdle behind Grands Crus, only tiring in the final stages. That was his first run since last April, so I expect him to come on a bundle for it, while this, of course, looks a lot less competitive.

15:20 totesport.com Grand National Trial (Grade 3 Handicap Chase) - 3m 4f: With the Grand National weights coming out in midweek and most of these entered up in the Aintree showpiece in April then we can expect the ante post market to go crazy after this contest. West End Rocker will be chasing the sponsor’s £250,000 bonus after winning the Classic Chase at Warwick – he just needs to win here and then the big one! However, I think last year’s winner SILVER BY NATURE can land back-to-back wins in this race. He’s the only course and distance runner in the line-up, which is a huge plus, while despite being 6lbs higher than last year, he’s love ground and is actually dropped 7lbs for his recent Welsh National seventh. Finally, add in that the yard are in cracking form, with a few winners in midweek and that further adds to my confidence.

15:55 Pertemps Handicap Hurdle (Qualifier) - 3m: My two against the field here are SKIPPERS BRIG and PALYPSO DE CREEK. The last-named did us a favour at Wetherby last time and although up 5lbs this time I don’t think that will be enough to stop him. He’s now won three of his 5 hurdles runs and clearly enjoys the smaller obstacles, while his jockey Tom Siddall gets on really well with him.

My other pick was last seen running down the field over in Ireland at Leopardstown, but he’s down a further 4lbs this time and it could just have been the trip over wasn’t ideal. The time before saw him run a decent third in the Boylesports Gold Cup, but the return to hurdles could also spark him back to life and at a price he could go well.

16:30 totesport 0800 221 221 Novices' Handicap Chase - 2m 4f: BENNY BE GOOD can take this one for the Reveley team. He won here over hurdles last March, so the track will not be an issue, while more significantly that was the last time he’s raced on soft ground.

Wincanton Betting Odds

15:45 Bathwick Tyres Kingwell Hurdle (Grade 2) - 2m: A great little Champion Hurdle trial here and I think OVERTURN can cap off what’s been a great week for the McCain team, after Peddlers Cross won up at Kelso in the week. We last saw him running second in the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton, behind Binocular and on that form he’s certainly the one to beat. He’ll love going this way round, while this front-runner could be extremely hard to pass out in front. Alan King’s Mille Chief is a big threat, but he stable’s Walkon ran poorly yesterday at Newbury and that’s got to be a slight concern for his backers.
