| Global Offset Experts: White House clean energy proposal supported by head of Senate energy panel.Obama’s clean energy standard received a boost recently when the head of the Senate energy panel announced that he could back the idea of including nuclear power in the fuel mix.
The chair of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee, Democratic Senator Jeff Bingham told Global Offset Experts that he supports including nuclear power in the White House’s proposed clean energy standard, as long as renewable energy sources such as wind and solar also benefit. "If we can develop a workable clean energy standard that actually continues to provide an incentive for renewable energy projects to move forward, and provide an additional incentive for some of the other clean energy technologies, nuclear being one, I would like to see that happen," Senator Bingaman told Global Offset Experts. A number of environmentalist have raised concerns over labeling nuclear power as a “clean energy” because of the problem of storing radioactive used fuel from reactors. The senator earlier said that he felt that nuclear energy did not belong in a renewable energy standard for power generation which included wind, solar and geothermal power. Bingham has now said that he is prepared to include nuclear power in an expanded clean energy standard as long as clean energy growth is not slowed as a result. He told reporters that he has been in recent discussions with the White House over how to come up with a legislative proposal which would "I'm approaching the issue with a willingness ... to work on trying to come up with a way to achieve what the president set out," Bingham told Global Offset Experts. The senator did however point out that he did not know when a formal bill was likely to be introduced, adding that he believed that President Obama’s help would be needed and that the White House would have to take a more active role than what it did with the failed climate change bill which was unable to pass through the Senate last year. # # # GLOBAL OFFSET EXPERTS’s green investments bring environmental stewardship together with a potent economic model which protects and renews while delivering top returns to investors.
