Jan. 17, 2011 - PRLog -- QC Software, a nationally recognized leader in warehousing software, is pleased to announce that an associate recently obtained the CompTIA RFID certification. CompTIA (Computer Technology Industry Association) is the non-profit trade association advancing the global interests of information technology (IT) professionals and companies including manufacturers, distributors, resellers, and educational institutions.  Since 1982 CompTIA has supported and led the global IT industry through educational programs, market research, networking events, professional certifications, and political advocacy.
Brian Dunavent of QC Software completed the comprehensive training program from the Computer Technology Industry Association. The exam measures the ability to install, maintain, repair and troubleshoot the hardware and software functionality of RFID products.
"RFID is an emerging technology that helps our clients to improve inventory tracking, reduce costs and errors, and mitigate risk," stated Jerry List, Vice President of QC Software.  “We are committed to offering cutting-edge solutions that optimize warehouse operations. That’s why twenty percent of our work force is certified in RFID.”
RFID tags have the ability to store and update product information and transaction histories in a secure manner and transmit data to the system’s database. The technology is especially useful for warehouse operations because the read range, which can be 20 feet or more, makes it easier to track inventory, especially under harsh or difficult conditions.
List outlined the advantages of RFID in the warehouse or distribution center:
Inventory Management – RFID uses real-time data to accurately maintain inventory counts throughout the warehouse.
Control the Flow of Inventory – From receiving, put-away, picking, to shipping, RFID tags accurately control the transport and routing of items for increased throughput.
Asset Tracking –  Reusable containers, tools, supplies, and capital equipment can be accurately tracked to reduce losses and improve availability.
Increased Security for Unattended Locations – A fixed reader can monitor a specific location that stores high-value items or provide documentation that perishable goods were appropriately stored in a cold environment.
Product Authentication – Unique ID numbers embedded in the tags make it possible to authenticate a product. This is especially important for the drug industry to ensure consumer safety, and used to prevent the piracy of high-end items.
