Bentley Chevrolet Reveals Volt as North American Car of the Year

Jan. 11, 2011 - PRLog -- Bentley Chevrolet, a Florence Chevrolet dealer, informed Alabama Chevy fans that the new Chevrolet Volt was named the winner of the North American Car of the Year award. The award was presented yesterday as part of the Detroit Auto Show. Competing against the Alabama Chevrolet Volt was the new Nissan Leaf and a revamped version of the Hyundai Sonata.

A panel of 50 automotive experts was in charge of judging this year’s competition. During the past couple of months, the group reviewed hundreds of vehicles and announced the final three contenders last month. In order to be eligible, vehicles had to undergo significant change from this last year to this year. Helping to guide the decision-making process was an administrative group of five automotive journalists, including Car and Driver’s Tony Swan.

Several committee members, such as Lindsay Brooke of Automotive Engineering International, had great things to say about the Chevrolet Volt’s unique concept. Brooke noted that, “The Volt seamlessly bridges the gulf between today’s liquid fueling infrastructure and the plugged-in electric future.” Dan Akerson, CEO of GM, hopes that with this win more Alabama Chevy shoppers will look into buying electric vehicles. “Being named North American Car of the Year will help convince customers that the Volt is truly a breakthrough vehicle, delivering the benefits of electric driving without the the range anxiety associated with pure electric vehicles.”
