Follow on Google News | UK’s Top Film Makers at Glynn Vivian Art GalleryThis Friday 10 December at 7pm, the Glynn Vivian Art Gallery will be showing Ffilm 1, the first of 3 exciting seasons of exhibitions presenting a wide range of recent film and video from well known and emerging artists from Wales and the UK.
By: City and County of Swansea Room 1 will display a rolling programme of works selected from commissioning organisations and collections across the UK including, amongst others, Film and Video Umbrella, the Arts Council Collection and the British Council. As well as screening a varied and fascinating range of films and video from these agencies and organisations, the gallery will also screen works from their own collection and films loaned directly from artists. Ffilm 1 begins with a recent group of films produced by Film and Video Umbrella which resulted from a major collaboration between the UK Film Council’s New Cinema Fund and Arts Council England. The project was managed by Film and Video Umbrella and Maya Vision International. Launched in London and followed by a national tour of cinemas, galleries and other more unusual venues, Single Shot consists of specially commissioned film and video pieces by well-known artists, as well as new talent. While demonstrating a wide diversity of approaches, the films share a desire to create a work of power and complexity from the most basic of cinematic elements - the single, unedited shot. Whether humorous or poignant, seductive or disturbing - or indeed all of these things - each work attempts to catch the viewer’s eye and hold it, unblinkingly, until the end. Please note all works are being screened in Room 1 with the exception of Ori Gersht’s Pomegranate which is located in the Collection Galleries. Free admission, everyone welcome.
