Dec. 10, 2010 - PRLog -- West Vancouver, British Columbia, November 24, 2010 – FES Mobility Ltd today announced the arrival of the 4th generation Odstock Pace Dropped Foot Stimulator (ODFS Pace ) in Canada. The Pace is designed to improve walking in people with multiple sclerosis (MS), stroke and other neurological conditions. Walking is facilitated through stimulation of a nerve below the knee, activating paralysed leg muscles and producing movement at the ankle, hip and knee.  A footswitch in the shoe triggers stimulation during the walking cycle. Studies show the UK-  developed device improves walking speed by an average of 27% and walking endurance by 29%. By preventing the foot from dragging on the ground, the Pace also reduces the risk of falling.
“We are thrilled to bring the 4th generation ODFS Pace to Canada. Now Canadians who have   difficulty walking due to MS, stroke and other neurologic impairments can benefit from this unique, innovative and affordable technology that has already improved walking for over 6000 people in the UK. The ODFS Pace provides us with a new means of delivering rehabilitation and improving patients’ quality of life” says Maura Whittaker, VP, FES Mobility.
Set up within minutes, the pocket–size ODFS Pace, like an orthosis, is worn all day for walking.  It provides an immediate, observable change in gait even years following stroke or MS onset. Many users report ability to walk more safely with less effort, especially out of doors, an improved overall confidence in their mobility and less dependency on a wheelchair.
