Dec. 7, 2010 - PRLog -- STUART FL --- Michele Libman, M.D. has been recertified as a diplomate in Emergency Medicine by the American Board of Emergency Medicine (ABEM), one of the 24 member-boards of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS). Dr. Libman is the medical director of Treasure Coast Urgent & Family Care, and also serves as president of its affiliate entity, Treasure Coast Primary Care, P.A.

Recertification is even more demanding than initial certification, which involves a rigorous process of testing and peer evaluation that is designed and administered by specialists in the specific area of medicine in which the physician practices.

Since 2006, the ABMS has required that in order to be recertified, physicians must meet a set of specific standards, referred to as Maintenance of Certification (MOC). These standards include using evidence-based guidelines, national standards and best practices in combination with customized continuing education “to demonstrate leadership in the national movement for healthcare quality.” MOC also requires proof of continuing education and experience in between testing.

Dr. Libman received her original certification in emergency medicine in 2000 while serving as an attending emergency doctor (ED) at Morristown Memorial Hospital, in New Jersey.

She established Treasure Coast Urgent & Family Care after several years as an attending ED at Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center, Lawnwood Regional Medical Center and Martin Memorial Hospital, where she continues to serve in that capacity.

Dr. Libman is also board certified in Internal Medicine and Advanced Cardiac Life Support. She is a member of the American Association of Emergency Medicine and the Martin County Medical Society.
