Dec. 6, 2010 - PRLog -- The Abundant Life School of Ministry awarded the Honorary Doctorate of Divinity (D.D.) to Rev. Prince Emanuel Yelder, founder of Disciples for Christ Music Ministry, for his contributions to the gospel music industry.

The award was presented to Rev. Yelder at the 14th Annual “Praiz n da Houz” concert by Dr. Daniel Cason, founder of Abundant Life School of Ministry, amidst fellow ministers of music, local pastors and gospel music supporters.

Dr. Yelder said, “I am humbled for such an honor to be bestowed upon me. I stand on the shoulders of my predecessors in Birmingham who required excellence in music ministry and a Christ-centered lifestyle.”

The Honorary Doctorate of Divinity comes after years of conducting seminars on gospel music in Japan with Thanksgiving, Praise & Worship Ministries and serving as Minister of Music for New Hope Baptist Church, where he produced two recordings, which includes one national project.

He is also Minister of Music for the Birmingham Community Mass Choir of the Gospel Music Workshop of America (GMWA), the largest gospel music convention in the world. Yelder recorded his arrangement of "Just A Little Talk With Jesus", “Your Testimony Starts With A Test”, “Psalms 134” and “He Will Deliver” with the GMWA National Choir.

He also recorded numerous selections with the GMWA Women of Worship and with James Bignon and his 400-voiced mass choir. The track, "He Made The Difference" from James’ album “Miracle” is still in rotation on gospel radio today. He also serves as music director for the Birmingham SCLC and the National Baptist Convention of America’s Evangelistic Board.

During his radio career, he pioneered local gospel radio by including local artists in contemporary radio play lists and became the voice for Birmingham gospel events.

Rev. Yelder performed with his choir, Disciples for Christ, on the Stellar Awards with Angela Spivey and recorded the projects “He’ll Work it Out” and “He Will Deliver” on Malaco/Muscle Shoals Music Group.
