South Florida Psychologist Selected for the Ultimate Makeovers Team

Dec. 4, 2010 - PRLog -- In the spirit of ABC's Extreme Makeovers and Fox's the Swan, there is a new standard: Ultimate Makeovers.  Those shows have made extreme aesthetic transformations popular nationwide, but the new program offers a twist.

In the Ultimate Makeovers Program, Florida’s best doctors and health practitioners go beyond changing people's looks to transforming their lives. The Ultimate Makeovers Team will help the less fortunate through community activism and fundraising corporate partnerships as well as through cosmetic procedures.

Nottingham Consulting Group sponsored a research investigation to discover South Florida’s top health practitioners. Each practitioner was selected by an independent panel using Ten Criteria. By qualifying and certifying the team, the community panel ensured that each practitioner meets a high standard of trust and professional ability.

The Ten Criteria are:

2. High Quality Education
3. Good Standing in the Community
4. Industry Accolades and Leadership
5. History of Published Works
6. Client Testimonials
7. Tradition of Community Service
8. Praise from Colleagues
9. A High Degree of Professionalism
10. Marketing

Each year the Ultimate Makeovers Team will perform a makeover for a deserving member or members of the community at no cost to the participant. The makeover may include cosmetic dentistry (including periodontics and orthodontics), plastic surgery, hair restoration, laser eye surgery, dietetics/personal training, hair/make-up, and even psychology/therapy. Makeover recipients will be chosen from local charities and the community.

The Ultimate Makeovers Project raises money for a charity every year. The charity for 2010-2011 is Women In Distress, the only nationally accredited, state-certified, full service domestic violence center serving Florida’s Broward County.

Amber Stirlen, Psy. D, a Licensed Psychologist, was selected for The Ultimate Makeovers Team due to her avid participation in the local community.  She is a Red Cross Certified Volunteer and Hurricane Relief Counselor, and has been a featured presenter for school teachers at Sawgrass Elementary School discussing Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) in children.  She also volunteers for Broward Regional Health and Planning Council & the Health Foundation of South Florida.

Dr. Stirlen is also an Affiliate of the American Psychological Association (APA), an Affiliate of the Florida Psychological Association (FPA), a Psi Chi Lifetime Member, and a member of the National Association of Professional Women (NAPW).  She is the Director of the Health and Wellness Psychology Clinic at Nova Southeastern University, as well as an Adjunct Professor.
