Nov. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- Tutors International, a leading global provider of private tuition, reports that it has received record numbers of enquiries from foreign undergraduates studying at UK universities seeking educational support. Many of the requests are notable in the lack of competency in the English language, prompting founder and senior partner of Tutors International to urge parents of students planning to study a degree in the UK to help their child prepare before reaching university. "We've seen a notable increase in requests for private tuition from foreign undergraduates over the past few months," said Adam Caller. "Whilst that trend is interesting in and of itself, what I have found remarkable is the poor standards of both spoken and written English amongst the students looking for help. I simply cannot understand how these undergraduates have managed to secure places on a degree course studied at a British university, taught and examined in English, when their skill in English is so poor."

When asked for an example to illustrate the problem, Adam replied; "We had to end a contract with an undergraduate at one of the most highly regarded British universities as his command of English was negligible. It rapidly became apparent that we would be unable to help him at degree level in his chosen subject as he was unable to write an essay in English. It begs the question of how on earth he secured his place on the course, especially considering the demand for places and the number of superlative students with multiple A grades being turned away."

"I would urge any parents of children in other countries who are planning to help their child study for a degree in England to plan much further ahead," Adam continued. "I would suggest at the very least a gap year to bring their language skills to the necessary standard, otherwise their child simply cannot benefit from the course. I see no reason to put the student through so much stress, and quite frankly, waste the money on putting them through a degree in England," Adam concluded, "when they could achieve so much more with well-timed private tuition before they even reach university.
