Nov. 29, 2010 - PRLog -- India Product Management Association today announced its Launch

Bangalore, 29th November, 2010 – India Product Management Association (IPMA), a first of its kind not for profit organization for product management and marketing professionals and anyone interested in product management  across diverse sectors in the IT industry, today announced its ‘launch’ at IIM-B’s Management Development centre.
Charter of IPMA includes fostering better product design & innovation capability as well as catalyzing product management talent in India, including emerging domains. It has created a platform for professionals, educational institutions, institutions and organizations to grow the local product ecosystem and help bridge the talent gap.

Ramkumar Narayanan, Vice President of Product Management, Marketing and User Experience at Yahoo, inaugurated the event to mark the launch of IPMA.
Speaking at the launch, Ravi Padaki, Founder of IPMA, said, “Product Management and Marketing as a function and the role of Product Managers are gaining significance among organizations that are aiming to develop strong products for global markets. The IPMA aims to be a product and technology community driven organization to share the best practices of Product Management and Marketing”

There is a growing need for local product management talent. Startups and large companies recognize the criticality of product management function and role in their organizations. However finding the right talent is hard. There is not enough information and awareness about Product Management as a function in the product and technology sector and how the career path looks like. Universities are just beginning to look at teaching Product Management courses. Business Analysts in service companies typically gather requirements from the clients and build solutions exclusively for the client. This is very different from researching what the markets and customers want, designing products that cater to their needs, and marketing to domestic, emerging or global markets.

IPMA plans to create chapters in major product hubs across India such as Pune, Hyderabad and Delhi.
‘’We see a great synergy in IPMA and the IIMB Alumni Association’s charter – to create networking platforms for working professionals, in this case product managers of top technology companies of the country, to come together. Events like these not only benefit our alumni but also our students as it brings the industry closer to academia and promote management excellence. ” said Rakesh Godhwani, Head of IIMB Alumni Association

Ramkumar Narayanan Vice President Product Management, Marketing, UED, Yahoo!, who was an inaugural speaker at the event spoke on – ‘How to build killer products for global markets from India.’

Ram also said, “Yahoo! is committed to growing the product management eco -system in India.  We deeply appreciate and support the efforts of IPMA to create a platform that will enable exchange of best practices among practicing and aspiring Product Management professionals. This is a critical step forward towards India’s emergence as a product innovation hub in the coming decades. “
“India Product Management Association is a much needed catalyst to bridge the talent gap in Product Management and marketing that is so critical to the growth of the product eco-system in India.” said Sharad Sharma, NASSCOM Product Forum Chair.
