Nov. 24, 2010 - PRLog -- This is the view of Human Resource experts at Accsys, a national supplier of payroll, HR, Time & Attendance and Access Control solutions.

In order to achieve results from a team or individual, a manager has to use styles and skills that are most effective in that particular situation or context.

Members of Accsys’ HR team disagree with the notion that a specific style of management contributes towards non-recognition of women, for example.

They are confident that women are taking an ever growing leadership role in commerce and continue to demonstrate the ability to multi-manage their careers and family responsibilities. This makes them ideal management material say Accsys HR specialists.

They believe that the success of a specific style of management in the workplace is down to the individual.

Bruce Clay – Global Internet Marketing Solutions (www.bruceclay.co.za) identifies several management styles. These include coercive, authoritative, affirmative, democratic, pace setting and coaching.

“These are not the only styles in existence, nor are they necessarily adopted independently from another within a business. Often managers will use more than one style. The main aspect we believe is important for the market to understand is that management style is most effective when geared towards understanding and getting the best out of a specific employees’ skills set and willingness to achieve goals,” says Teryl Schroenn, CEO, Accsys.

“As such any one of these skills may be used to suit the situation and/ or employer,” she continues.

Accsys management identifies certain attributes and common factors that typify characters of successful managers. These include a high emotional intelligence, self control, self-awareness, the ability to communicate effectively as well as being able to delegate strategically.

“However the reality of management within the modern workplace is that people are influenced by a number of factors such as personal morals and value systems, the culture of a business and previous experience in a managerial position. The way you treat employees can significantly impact on their enthusiasm, passion and job satisfaction, and ultimately could make or break the business,” adds Schroenn.

According to management at Accsys it is important that those in a management position take a mature approach in the evaluation of their influence and the results of management style.

“Management style should be based on the skills and personality of the individual manager.  The power of a strong management team often rests on the different approaches of the managers melding together well.   There is no question that an effective style can boost morale, inspire and help, whilst a negative or counter-productive style could be detrimental to staff. Managers need to be aware of this and aware of how much their style can influence business,” says Schroenn.
