Violinist Gary Levinson to Perform with the Minnesota Sinfonia

Minnesota Sinfonia to feature celebrated chamber musician Gary Levinson on violin at their first 2011 Winter Concert Series.

Nov. 17, 2010 - PRLog -- MINNEAPOLIS - November 17, 2010 -- The two January concerts of the Minnesota Sinfonia's free-admission Winter Concert Series will feature violinist Gary Levinson, celebrated chamber musician and Senior Principal Associate Concertmaster of the Dallas Symphony. A Minneapolis native, Levinson is son of former Minnesota Orchestra bassist Eugene Levinson. He will join the Minnesota Sinfonia January 7 and 9 for a performance of Henri Vieuxtemps' Concerto No. 5 for Violin. Also on the program are Bizet's Symphony in C and Once Upon A Time, a new work by New York composer Edward Green.

Levinson joined the New York Philharmonic in 1987 at age 21, and made his New York Philharmonic solo debut under the baton of Erich Leinsdorf in 1991, the same year he earned his Master of Music degree at the Juilliard School. A laureate of the Jaçques Thibaud and Romano Romanini International Violin Competitions, he is a sought-after recording artist and chamber soloist. His music has been featured on NPR's Performance Today.

Concerts will be held 7 p.m. Friday, January 7 at Metropolitan State University's Founders Hall at Maria Ave and E 6th Street in St. Paul, and 4 p.m. Sunday, January 9 at Temple Israel, 2324 Emerson Ave S, Minneapolis. Admission is free and children are welcome to attend. Audience members should arrive early-all concerts are first-come, first-seated.
