Coventry and Warwickshire look to orchestrate success at London 2012Musicians from Coventry and Warwickshire are being urged to help London 2012 organisers hit the right note when the Games arrive.
LOCOG is seeking internationally renowned UK-based orchestras with proven and demonstrable experience of working on either large-scale film or television productions, and with a minimum of 30 professionally qualified and experienced musicians. Tom Clift, Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership manager for the 2012 Games, said: “We have two universities in Coventry and Warwickshire, as well as countless schools and colleges, with proud musical traditions. “This project gives our musicians the chance to play a significant role at London 2012 and we would urge the musical community in our sub-region to grab this once in a lifetime opportunity with both hands. “The playing of the anthems at medal ceremonies is one of the most emotive parts of any Games and is watched by a worldwide audience. They encapsulate the Olympic and Paralympic values and celebrate the spirit of friendship, fairness and inclusion amongst the competing athletes. “I am sure everyone in the region would be incredibly proud if we could say that Coventry and Warwickshire played a significant part in producing those ceremonies and in generating what will no doubt be some of the most iconic sporting memories in the country’s history.” Orchestras are able to register their interest by visiting www.competefor.com. LOCOG expects to release the full invitation to tender, receive submissions and shortlist orchestras before Christmas 2010, with the successful orchestra contracted by February 2011. The successful orchestra will record the anthems in May 2011, with final sessions taking place in September 2011.
